seal between transfer case and gearbox 80 series

Post by BadLux »

Hey i know this a common fault in the hzj80 series, but when i dropped the oil I had 1.5litres extra in the transfer case and 1.5l less in the gearbox. When I first dropped the oil when i got it i had the right level of oil in both, however at this time it did not have the pipe that runs between the two filler plugs. I was told to put this on..

However I thought that the sole reason of putting this pipe on was to make sure both the gearbox and transfer case had the right levels of oil in them if the seal was to fail..

Whats going on here? is it just oil flowing from the gearbox and into the transfer case through the pipe I've added?

I'm confused?

Also how much would I be looking at to get this seal replaced at a mechanics?

I'd pull the hose and fittings off and blow compressed air through it to make sure there are no blockages. Its unusual to have this problem with the bypass hose fitted.

That fault was common on the older gearboxes pre 80 series, but it's impossible to get cross contamination in the 80 and 100 gearboxes because there's a void between the box and t/case, and each has it's own seal.

Did you make a mistake with the model?
