removing chrome from rims

Post by V8 Middy »

I was all set to buy the extra offset rims from procomp but alas they do not clear the brake calipers on a 70 series so cutting and flipping is my only option.

Get rims cut and flipped... easy
Powdercoating... easy

Problem is, the rims are a chrome finish. The powdercoaters gave me details of an elecroplaters to strip the rims but they said its too big for them to do.

Any tricks? Hours with a brush attachment on a power drill???

chrome is very hard and would take quite a long time to remove with a wire wheel.

Perhaps just spend the $$ on some new sunraysiers. $55-$65/rim.

swap your rims with someone who does a lot of beach driving, the job is half done for you, they are happy, you are happy, jobs done

Hey mate i had some chrome rims sand blasted. The sand will not remove the chrome, instead will etch it which is good enough to paint onto.
Put on some etch primer and paint them, sweet as.
