Last i started my GQ and it died after around 1 second. It did this a few more times and then started fine!!! It did this again last night!
It seemed like it was not getting any lpg. I have an EFI 4.2 Gq (impco system) and i'm pretty sure it starts on petrol and then switches to gas on its own.
When the ignition is on and i flick it from pertol to gas i can hear the solenoid at the tank switch back and forward and i can also here another solenoid or relay switching in the engine bay.
Anyone had similar troubles??? Easy to fix? Do i need an lpg guy to do it.
Cheers
Jimmy

Re: LPG troubles
So which one can you hear, the solinoid or the relay ??????Jimbo wrote: and i can also here another solenoid or relay switching in the engine bay.
You should be able to hear BOTH of them clicking in & out as the switch is flicked from on to off...... if you cant then grab a mate and get him to place a hand on both units and 'feel' for the electrical clicking.
When its on LPG the relay is what activates the solinoid, the relay is simply a safety switch that only allows power to the relay when the engine is either being cranked over or running..... it may allow the solinoid to open when the key is in the on position but this should only be momentarily.
Two main things generaly cause hard starting issues......
1/
Faulty carmcontrol ( relay ) & or the associated wiring.
2/
Converter issues such as full of wax or diaphram problems.
1/
To check ......
Select LPG mode.
Disconnect the wire from the solinoid on the converter and connect it up a test light.
Crank engine over
Test light should come on.
If not check earth wire, power wire and coil wire for current.
2/
Not a job for the non mechanical minded
To check.........
take it to a LPG specialist.

A mate of mine had the same problem on a EL ford.
you should have 3 solonoids - one at the tank and one at the converter inlet. These come on together. There is another at the outlet of the converter - on a start on petrol system this is controlled by the controller and comes in slightly before the petrol is shut off. On the ford this was not opening. (no output from the controller to it). We just hooked this up in parralell with the other two solonoids - all good but harder to start.
(only did this as a temp fix to get him going)
