"check trans" warning light coming on when in 4wd,

Post by bj42turbo »

Just bought a '93 Jackaroo for the wife, when its popped in 4wd the check trans warning light is coming on. When putting it back in 2wd its still on and only turns off when the ignition is turned off and restarted
As i had my reservations about buying a Jack this concerns me as we have had it only a couple of days and this happens.

Not sure why the light but I would check the oil level in the transfer case and gearbox 1st.

Is the 4wd side of things working ok?

Are they auto or manual locking hubs?

Get the code checked, see what comes out. That light comes on when the transmission or trasnfer case controler senses an issue, like a check engine light does for and engine. Without more info its a bit too hard to guess at the problem.
