TD 4.2

Post by ToddCPO »

Anyone here have abit of knowledge on the TD4.2?? I have one in my 99 DX Ute and am looking at getting it pulled apart and getting bearings and rings etc etc re-done. Anyhting specific i can do to it to get abit more out of it (any mods) besides tweaking the turbo.
And on that, anyone know of somebody on the northside of brissy that is any good and had good prices?

Cheers

with the motor, just make sure its gets balanced doesnt need to be blue printed, cam does make a little bit of difference allows it rev more.

But depends what your after from the motor for race applications go the above for just normal use build normal with turbo injectors.

you can tweak the cam a bit but nothing serious as the diesel limits the revs anyway. for example there no point fitting a cam tuned for 6000rpm when the motor cannot go above 4000rpm.

deisels are notorious for vibration so balancing would be good. however i have no idea if its an external or internal balanced.

mate had a cam n head work in his comp truck. reved to 6000 rpm and hauled ass. lasted about 10000kms being reved that hard tho.
he has now gone v8 (cos u cant make that sorta power n revs reliable in a deisel.

a lil head work and a turbo be the go. mab balance it so it is a bit smoother
