Wrangler muds... what put me off buying them!

Last weekend the bullride come to town and some old mates come down from the station for a piss up.. any way we got talkin at utes and so on and he had just bought a set of 32x11.5 15R wrangler muds 22,000km ago.. so far hes had 10 punchers and 3 side wall blowouts!! thats just on scrub driving and dirt road driving no real extreme 4x4ing... hhas anyone else had these kinda troubles? im not buyin wranglers anymore going for the cooper stt's only $35 more

Never had trouble with my MTR's, but i mainly use them as my road tyres these days. Have used them a bit earlier on on the rocks and never had a bad word really to say about them. Have had them pinched up hard on rocks at 8 PSI and never done much damage.

I had had problem with cooper STs but never with the MTR/s.

It sounds to me like they don't run the correct presures. I'm sure if it was such a common problem you would have heard of it by now.

Interesting - sounds like your mate has had a bad run. I have a set that get a real hard time - 95% of the time aired down to 10 PSI and run hard on moderate to extreme off road stuff on a Cruiser ute. I have only had one puncture [only a small hole that was fixed with a plug].

Sounds like he either got a dud set (unlikely given their track record but possible) or he was running high pressures at too high speeds.

Like others, I gave my second hand set quite a flogging and they never let me down. Am currently looking to put them under my zook as they are a great (IMO) compromise road/offroad tyre.

MTR's are s%#thouse for high speed dirt driving in my opinion.

They just seem to cop a hidding from the stones.

Other wise there unreal for hardcore 4x4 / onroad

I had a set when I did Brisbane - Innamincka - Arkaroola - Adelaide. Roads in these areas shred tyres, but aside from a healthy collection of cuts, the MT/Rs were great. Not so much as a slow leak.

I'd look further into your mate's experience. What pressure does he run? Too high is a real killer in rough stuff, too low is a killer on high speed dirt.

my guess is wrong pressures or just plain out right abuse
tis very very rare to see a damaged mtr so my guess is abuse ............. you cant expect to drive straight over stakes etc ................ they are rubber afterall not steel

Been running 35" MTRs for nearly 18months now and I have never had a problem with them. But in saying that the only thing I havent done on them is a lot of high speed dirt driving.

But like others have said...if it was a common problem you think we would of heard about it before.

If you believe what people say and it effects your choice of tyres, dont look around too much, or you will find Coopers ST and STT have a REALLY bad name in some places.
Mainly due to lugs ripping off etc.

I bought these off Scott and have put about 5000kms on 3 of the five I got and there is still approx 70 -80% wear left in them, the other two, worst of the bunch reside under my camper trailer. All up now I have eleven tyres that all get rotated through my cruiser every 5000km's bar the two on the trailer. Get on and off road. I would say your mates the one at fault not the tyre. Just my opinion though

lol tyre pressures... mate these top end ringers dont know about tyre pressures just pump them up and off you go... i know it sounds dodgy but now i believe hes at his own fault.... but i would say he'd prob have them up at around 32psi???

If its road pressure, I run at 38psi on the black stuff...

No good at stocko tho 12psi for me on the beach, 18psi rocks/dirt tracks

I have had 3 sets of MTRs and love them!
I am wondering why I bought a set of TSLs as trail tyres when my MTR road tyres work so well

I ran them(35") on the Lux at the Night owl 4wd Gmykhana comp last weekend with second air bead locks had 10psi in front and 8psi in back on the rocks and they gripped beautifully and no damage to speak of.

i've had my set of wrangler for over 40,000km, done high dirt driving and never copped a problem with them... they're good for my driving.. not that i go sideway on them in the dirt.

I alway kept the pressure for road, gravel/dirt driving at 33ish psi and no problem.. even at 110km/h

Seem ur mate does abuse them or not watching where's he putting his tracks Soon or later, i'd expect a flat as the threads are getting balder

All the Ergon Crusiers and Patrols out west around Longreach, Emerald etc run MTR's and they are always heavily laden and on crap roads and those guys swear by them, you also see them on most of the shooting trucks so that is a fairly good indication.
