Layover / Inboarding rear shocks ?
Layover / Inboarding rear shocks ?
Just about to layover the rear shocks of the back of my sierra. Just wanted to know peoples thought on how far in i should put them.
I've got the steel for the top bracket but just not sure where to make the mounts ?
Is there a general rule for this ? Should i just make sure the shocks don't limit travel and thats good enough ?
Thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.
Cheers Nick

how do you mean you wont use all the travel? you would only lay them over far enough to fit a shock that is only just long enough not to limit travel?bazooked wrote:u will find by laying them over u will greatly reduce the cars handling, and u will not use all of that extra travel u have by fitting longer shox.

in my shorty zook with spring over i fitted extra long shoks and layed them over to no real advantage, plus it had yj springs aswell so it had heaps of flex i did not use the full length of the shock with the springs at full flex, so imho there is no need to sacrifice stability and handling for a layover system when it is not necessary unless u got a serious buggy leaf set up, it is not even required for a coil set up which i have on my lwb now and it out flexs the shorty by a long way. so what im tryin to say if ya got a simple sus set up the futher u lay ur shocks over the less of the shock travel u will use.
buggy time............
But it also means that you can use a pretty cheapish damper designed for a much heavier vehicle (pootrol, crusier etc) that would normally make a zuk ride like box trailer if you did not gain some extra mechanical advantage over them ..
I agree through that you dont need a terribly long damper to get alot of travel in a layover situation. .(the more the spring compress's the more mechanical advantage you get by an exponential figure)
In an ideal world you would bring the top of the damper up through the floor and run them as close to vertical as possible as close to the end's of the axle as possible..

" If governments are involved in the covering up the knowledge of aliens, Then they are doing a much better job of it than they do of everything else "
Thats the idea ..CWBYUP wrote:LOVE MUD This is the current problem, I dont want to cut big holes in the floor of the back but need to in bound them a bit as it compresses to much to use that short a shock.
So basically the consenses in only in bound as much as you need to ?

Nope, they are new KYB 'Excel G' - Got them thru 4Play Offroad. They are suitable for zooks obviously but don't know if they were made for other vehicles.Damo wrote:I thought they looked longer than stock, are they off another vehicle?
