another diff centre question

Post by bazooked »

i asked about 75 series centres into a 60, now i have more info the donor diff centres are out of an 86 73 series cruiser, petrol, they come with airlockers the rd 33 model and 4.1 ratios, will these fit into 60 series housings?, im led to believe most of the pre 90 stuff is interchangable.

Yes they will fit into the 60 housing. 60, 73, 75, 80 rear, 40, and some 55s will all interchange housing and centres.

later 75's ( HZJ/FZJ models, 1990+ maybe?) have a different front.

Yes I realise that, but He hasnt got centres that are that late and I couldnt be bothered explaining that as well, Like you, I am not sure what date they changed over to the 8" centre so it was easier not to mention it.
Cheers.

Yeah i know you know your shit, just thought any additional info would be good for future reference ;)

Purely out of curiosity - did the BJ74's/PZJ74's etc have the smaller front diff? I assume they all changed at the same date...

I dont think so but am not certain. I am pretty sure they stop importing (or even making them) before the change over to 8" diffs. I couldnt be certain on that though, without going back over my info and refreshing my memory.

I did some research. It looks like they do still make the 74 for Japan and maybe some other markets. But they dont come to Australia.
It also say's that they changed to the 8" coil front from 1999 onwards.
Here is a link with the info if anyone is interested.

The bundy had the 8 inch upside down front diff, all other 7* before 1990 run thesame 10 inch diff, where it gets confusing is when you talk about tailshaft bolt patterns...the diffs may need a front end swap to what you have on there now.

Gday Andrew. The bundy has the 8" diff both ends, they run the full hilux running gear. Like you said all others have the 10" but only up to 1999. The 80s changed to 8" front in 1990 but the 70s didnt change until 1999. Only the 78/9 series cruiser came to Australia with the 8" front. (apart from the bundy)
Cheers.
Dave.
