What would you build to wheel

Post by bubs »

As the topic says what would you build right now if you could

I for one want a 1984 - 1988 single cab 2L diesel
It would not be real over board i think

Ok sinse ruff went into detail i will now

1984-1988 Single Cab
2.4L Diesel
Stock 5 Speed
Dual case one with a 4.7 gear set
IFS Rear Housing - ARB Air Locker - Trussed
IFS Hub Spaced Front End - High Pinon 4.5 - CORE CV's / Longfields - ARB
Rear Springs In Front - Dropped Front Hanger forward 1 in - axle 3.5 ~ 4in Forward
High Clearance Guards
37x12.5's MTR's
Rear Springs Would Be Either a coil rear end like POS or just some explorers
Chassis Shortend as far forward as possible
Tray As Short As Possible
Tube Front Bar / exo / sliderz
High Steer / Cross Over

I think that is most of it

Ok if iwas to start all over again i would not buy a complete vehicle to start with.
I would buy an 83-87 extra cab less motor, box, diffs and suspension.
Then fit the following.
4.4 or 3.5 rover V8.
T18 4spd from a bronco/F truck.
Dual toy cases with a 4.7 gear set in one.
4.11 ARB lockers with high pinion front.
Custom rear leafs up front.
Axle forward 5 inches.
IFS rear housing with disk brakes.
Haultech Engineering custom A frame coil rear end.
Haultech Electronic Traction Control with turning brakes.
C.O.R.E. CVs and HD front axles.
C.O.R.E. heavy duty steering rods.
38.5/16/15 MT Baja Claws on 15x10 beadlocks with 2" B/S.
Haultech Engineering full external roll cage incorperating highmount winch bumper.
Chassie chopped behind the cab and re-placed with Haultech Tube rear end.
Stripped interior with just Plastic race seats, harnesses and full autometer guages because i am a nerd that loves rice.
Nick Tones fiberglass front fenders.

Most of the above will also be my new rig if all goes to plan.
I was going to go full tube but with the XRCC and TTC being the only comps that may be for unregistered vehicles i need to keep my options open.4 comps a year just isnt enough for me.I still enjoy the Short Course Championships as well.

Who's doing the RAV 4 Simon???

I still want to squeeze a V6 into a Suzuki Mighty Boy..... for the drags .....

For bush but - I reckon a setup like a Rangie chassis, 4-8 inch travel, with Nissan running gear and a light 3.5 V8 setup would rock.

As for the body - I'd find something innapropriate for it - like an XD wagon shell or something silly....

For the moment I'll stick to destroying my 80 on a regular basis.....
80 Series Turbo - the Toy car...
XR6 Turbo - the work car...
XW wagon - the dogs car...

I'm not afraid to give out ideas like some people and their "secret rigs" :P

1986 SWB WT Zook
1.3L
YJ Spring Conversion kit from RockyRoad with Spring over and stock YJ springs front and rear
32-33" MTRs 15x8 rims (custom backspaced)
Birfield Cups
Driveshaft spacers
Series 3 Rockhoppers
4.62 R&Ps
Extractors. 2" exhaust (gotta have the tone!)
Front and Rear lockers (ideally, but depends on budget)
Reinforced xfer case mount
Custom bar work all round
Various lighting.
1/2 Doors

One reasonably cheap, XRCC Modified class rig at your service...

Starting to save for this now :)

My current 1974 CJ5 project....Not designed for out & out comp - but planned for plenty of fun but keeping it simple...My plans at this stage (remember it's at bare chassis stage right now):

Box the chassis up,
Retain stock leafs, but reduce the pack from 10 to 6, Keep the height low
Trayback the rear,
High clearance hood,
Disc brake conversion (F&R)
Dunnydore V6 & TH700 to dana20 with 3.8:1
Current 4.27 diff ratios are ok but I'd add detroits front & rear. (Ideally with 33spline rear shafts). Both diffs shaved.
1½" Body lift & same Motor mout lift (to get the engine away from rocks and allow ¼" steel skid to basically run the length underneath.
Not 100% on the brand of tyres yet (most likely TSL's), but limited to the 33-36" size.

No it won't be a huge flexer, but hopefully it will be a simple and fairly stout setup and the idea is to no so much worry about clearance off the rocks, but the ability to simply slid over the suckers....Keeping the Cog low for stability and to make the SWB driveline workable & protectable.....
Well that's the basics of the idea...Best thing I think I can do the entire project for very very little money....

84 FJ40 Troopy
Dana 60s
Coilovers
Take roof off, bob back, enlarge wheel openings and move front fenders to be a part of te bonnet (ala flat fender look)
6.5l V8 diesel
auto
atlas II
39.5" swampers on beadlocks
front/rear air lockers
full cage with seats attached to cage

Kinda like this (rough chop job)

i think the axle ratios are 7.54:1
the wheels are hummers with custom beadlocks
and the tyres are 38x12.5 8)
i think the engine is a 350 not a 250

apart from that the rig is fat and you have impeccable taste my friend!!

also i would love a pair of camo 60s 8)

i dont think that would be too good, i think as a minium it would need an engine and wheels to atleast drive, then again a cab and chassis in your drive way looks kinda cool right ruff :finger: :finger:

I would go for something like the JR Bronco that won the US Top Truck competition. Awesome rig. Full tube, mog axles (steer front and rear). Its really strong, big motor, big ground clearance, really low and looks great.

Sam

PS except im going to put a landrover body on it. :finger:
