80 Series Power Steering on a FJ40

Post by TWISTY »

As some will know I'm selling off all my buggy/zook stuff and have a bought a FJ40. I've got a 80 series power steering box lying around which I was going to fit to the zook at some stage, and am hoping to be able to use it on the 40 when I get it, as it doesn't have any power steering at the moment. It'll be running about 4-5" suspension lift and 35's.

Has anyone done this conversion before? any picturess or advice would be great? would a different steering box do the job better/easier?

yep i have an 80 series box on mine.

used a 55 series coulum and most of the shaft, i think i used a uni off a 75 series to join it to the box.

it is all a pretty simple conversion, camera is broken at the moment but can get some photos latter if you want

I've got the 80 series uni there, so hopefully that will be fine to use.

But some pics of the steering column, and mounting of the steering box would be great, thanks!

Also will I need to install a double arm or similar on the passenger side of the diff for the steering links?

Like this one I had on the hilux diffs on my zook.

The 60 series diff's I've got (with airlockers) are being used as part of the payment for the FJ. The mate I'm buying it off is going to build a ute up with them. I'll probably swap to 60 series down the track, but for now large offset 15x10's will do for some extra width.
