i sent those guys an email a while back showing interest in joining, but never got a reply, does anyone know if they are still around ?

They are an extremely active bunch.
Maybe the email got lost in an auto junk filter or similar?
Best to join the group/forum and talk to them that way.
Most of them are regular Outerlimits members, too.
