Carby trouble 2f
Ok my car is running like sheet . I suspect my carby is in need of rebuild or overhaul?? . Symptons are that it will not idle and requires choke to start . once running it seems ok when foot is flat (secondaries open?) but shudders coughs and farts when trying to drive at slow steady speed . Have sprayed carby cleaner through the unit and cleaned out the bowl etc . Oh have also changed fuel filter . Any thoughts as to what to check or can anyone steer me in the right direction in regards to fitting a holden or ford carby . Ie are adaptor plates available from repco or something . It is only a hack car and I have access to holden 6cyl carbies just need info on how to fit and any likely trouble . Cheers .
There's a fuel cut-off solenoid which I think shuts off the idle jet when you turn off the ignition. If it's not working - it won't idle. You should hear it click when you turn the ignition on & off. If you can't hear it - check the wire going onto the top of the carb is live when the ignition is on...
Hmm sounds like a possible
cause as the trouble seemed to occur between operation . So I am looking for a wire on top of the carby ? and where is the solenoid located . I am not near the car at the moment . I do recall a wire attatched to the top of the carby (motor side) when I opened it but other than unclip it I did not test or trace it . Thanks for the feedback
Im here for the sausage!
Ok well it appears as though
the solenoid is definately the culprit . was getting power but was stuck . freed it up with carby cleaner and then crc and operated it many times on the battery to test it and all appeared ok . refitted and away it went . unfortunately after driving for about 50km in hot weather it failed again and still had voltage . Seemed ok again once cooled down . so deciding i need a new one i rang around and cannot seem to source a replacement???,can anyone tell me where i can get one . I am thinking that maybe i need to order as a genuine part from toyota??.
The idle solenoide is used to cut off fuel supply imediately the key is turned off. for a short term solution you can cut the needle tip off to alllow fuel to flue, but you may experience a bit of run on when you turn the key off. I know we used to sell them when I worked at RECARB in QLD on the sunshine coast for about $50 bucks. There number is 07 5493 3788. they should even be able to organise frieght
MUD, MUD, GLORIOUS MUD!
Ok cutting the tip off??.This may prove handy because the car is about 75km from home and to try to get it home how it is is a rougher ride than a gin with whooping cough . I am up at work and trying to source a replacement to fit before driving it home but dont know that it will happen . How much can I cut off and is it as simple as using pliers then re-opening the end ? .
