I have done a search but have not found a direct answer to this question.
Are the 100 series axles the same length as the 80 series? I know they are bigger in diameter and they have a different spline and bigger axle studs. Just need to know the lengths.

I have an 80 housing And a 100 series centre 4.3. I want to put this 100 series centre in the 80 housing so I can have 4.3 gears and stronger centre. the axle lengths arent going to make a difference, if your using 80 series axles in an 80 series housing, and just putting a 100series diff centre in it, then all you need to know is that the splines are the same.midi73 wrote:does anyone else Know for sure.

The main question that hasn't been cleared is it the front or rear axle ?????. On the front axle the centres are interchangable the inner axles are exactly the same on both sides, on the DX ( FWH models ) the CV are exactly the same, the full time 100's have a different drive plate spline than all 80's and DX's. On the rear 80 and 100 axles are exactly the same lenght but 100's have a bigger 32 spline, bigger axle studs on a different PCD. The 100 4.3:1 centre will fit into the 80 housing with a little grinding and 100 axles and hubs ( 5 stud ) will fit as well. Hubs can be modified back to 6 stud with some machine work.

Ok, how far different is it? is there any reason why you couldnt fill these and redrill the hub for the axle studs. PCD Pitch Circle Diameter of the circle around a centre point that the holes are drilled. 80's and all other Toyotas (except 100's)are 6 holes on 90.0mm PCD, 100's are 6 holes on 92.0mm PCD. Just enought to S**T you. Your can fit 80 diff side gears to 100 diffs and still use the 80 axles. on my 80ute i redone the wheel studs as i wanted the bigger axles and the axle studs being on a bigger PCD is better also. I want to go this way because I have everything I need to do it this way, (except 100 axles. Anyone?) I thought about putting the side gears in, but I want to go bigger as well and I want to fit an air locker, so that buggers the side gear idea up.

80 side gears can be fitted into 100 air locker by making up 2 small bushes. Modiying the 100 hubs to 6 stud or 80 hubs to suit 100 axles requires a machine shop to do this work. As for axle strenght the axles are the same size up to the spline and the 100 axle is ~35.0mm Dia as an 80 is ~33.5mm Dia at the splines . When ever ive seen an toyota FF axle break its always been at the flanged end where both 80&100 axles are the same size. I modified the 100 to six stud as i brought a complete rear end and after i found that the housings and most parts were very similar.midi73 wrote:Ok, cool.
