Hey guys,
Currently own a Rangie, for sale, and am looking at selling to buy a GQ.
Would love to here ur opinions on what is better suited for serious off road use and most likely comp build up.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. BJ

depends on your comp
but if its winch events most people are going away from shortys and modifying them to be middy's (which isnt cheap) and some are going from middys to lwb.
cheaper for lwb. depends on your budget
can always get lwb wagon chop into ute cab or extra cab. shorty to middy them properly is around 5k

Middy??
Ideally would like to go 4 a middy, similar 2 rangie wheelbase, one thing I liked about it. LWB can be harder to throw round corners thou as I found in my mates GQ longie.
Extending 2 a middy? what does this involve? Got a mate who works 4 nissan, cheap parts and LWB trade in's.
Made heaps of errors with rangie, don't want to go down same path.

Re: Middy??
I believe that Cheezy does them for around $3k, thats a-frame rear, wheelbase extension, H/D trailing arms etc... body panels tacked back but not sprayed.BJ wrote:Extending 2 a middy? what does this involve?

I ran mine as SWB for a while but they are just too short for high speed or hill climbs. Now it is 104" and the difference is amazing. Most guys in NZ are using LWB chassis with trayback and cut all of the chassis off behind the rear wheels. This handles rear well and climbs really well but in my opinion you sacrifice response and ability in the tight. You have to decide what is more import to you. To me it ment MWB but a lot will say LWB but whether that is influenced by cost I don't know.
