Does my new tyre carrier look okay ?

i Was just wanting to see what you guys reckon of the design. I just need to gusset up where it joins onto the trailer hub and then it should be sweet.

Its all made from 50x50x3mm

Any ideas, suggestions.

How thick is the plate where the wheel will bolt to? Any gusseting behind it?

where did you get the trialer hub setup from? did you machine down a full size hub?

the hub looks like one of the flangeless hubs you can buy from
Martins Trailer parts in WA..i bought a heap of them to use to make wheel carriers etc

shoot us a photo with a bit more of the hub side of business. From the bit of the pic you have it welded to the left side of the tow bar.

maybe it was the way mousie had hes cowboy hat folded down like clint eastwood instead of the way he normaly folds the front up like gomer pile!

I just started on mine today but I'm also making the bar as well, could you do me a favour and post the dimensions of the hub you're using. I've ordered one and am waiting on it to arrive but want to carry on making the bar. On the site they have it with some dimensions but it isn't shown real well, I really need the diameter specifically so I can work out how low profile my bar can be.

We need to pull out the Akubra hat holder in my ute so he can hang his hat up from the roof.

Ill try and get somemore pics and specs up for ya all shortly. In the process of turning a cash side busness into the real deal. Ive worked out how to do invoices with MYOB, the rest can wait

by the looks of that picture the box section is welded to the centre of the plate that will hold the tyer ... wont that make a weak point :?

I think ill need to but a brace in where i joined onto the tow bar. The tow bar had been flipped upside down and suits my swb with a 2 inch body lift, this lwb came with a 3 inch body, so should be sweet.

You can see properly now how i braced the plate the tyre bolts too.

I managed to find time to weld it all up, so alli need to do is sort the latch out, full open stop, gas strut and some tail lights inder neath somewhere

Oh yeah , and a big thanks to Family bus for helping me out with some more welding rods, saved a few $$$

Before you get it all buttoned up make a provison for a work\reversing light off it. And I think you may need to barce up the actual bumper or it will vibrate heaps ...

almost finished, lol. Now im single and Im sick of watching tele is time to get on with it. Work light is on, LED lights fitted. Just need to paint the tyre carrier part and wire in the work lights then its done. even have a gas strut sorted for it.

Then ill make a high lift carrier off the tyre too.

As for bracing, i did beef it up, But will definatly be keeping an eye on the welds for cracking, etc. Should be ok though, BUT its gotta be the week point for sure.

The first crack will appear where the shs is welded onto the bearing tube (the pivot point)...... thats my call anyway. :D
