Post by wozman »

I have a GQ 88 turbo desiel and my gear stick gets blood hot. This only seems to happen on hot days. Does anyone else have this problem? and what do you think is causing it? Oh yeah I have chnged the oil and it has made no difference. Thanks Woz

Considering the gearbox (and it's oil) could be getting up to like 130 degrees it's not really a suprise.

If you're really worried about it you can get a transmission cooler.

If it didnt get up to those sorts of temperature the moisture it would collect overt ime would do it no favours... exactly the same as an engine.

Since i put the body lift on my gq it has made the gear stick hot but i was told that it is because the base area was cut to allow for the body lift etc etc and not to worrie about it ... so i havent

All it is is the shifter boot split, I fitted a new one to mine and it's back to normal.

I agree. I couldnt be bothered changing the boot so i put a heap of insulation (i had laying around) around the boot and all under the plastic cover and it has cut down the heat but even better is it is so quiet now!!

If you do a body lift you will get a hotter gear shifter

When you raise the body the well that the engine used to sit in goes higher and the hot air being removed from the engine then is able to flow up to that well alot easier allowing the gear stick to get hot

ALso check your gear shift boot and under matting that goes under the boot, if thats not on properlly it will get even hotter as air will come into the cab and up the shaft

thats what happened when i did my lift
