3l oil light
A question for any of you boys with the 2.8d hilux.
How long does it take for the oil light to go out of a morning?
What type of oil do you guys run?

mine takes a few secs too around 5ish. I've tried different oil filters, oils etc and one combination stopped the oil light coming on. I just forgot what filter or brand of oil i was using. I'm using penrite at the moment cause it's supposedly thicker than the others. Valvoline filters yeah they're shit filters but i'm going through them every 5thou and they cost $28bucks each. I'd like to hear what others have to say too.
The reason I am asking is mine takes about 10 seconds easy, even after it has sat for about an hour. I have had it for about 80k(it has 180k now)
I have always run RX Super in it with genuine filters(they cost about $14 each) and I change the oil and filter every 5k religiously. I might have to pull the sump off and check the pickup out for any shit on it.

Firstly, I would be checking the oil pressure with a guage directly into the block to see exactly what you have.
Then it could just be a dodgey oil press sender etc.
When I first got my lux, the oil was like mollasses, and it took at least 5 seconds (seems like an eternity when the engines running) before it went out.
After 4 oil changes, It would sometimes be 3, sometimes longer.
after 7 changes in the last 8 months, its settled down to about 3 seconds after the engine fires.

I got a Z334 filter on mine because the turbo's mounting bracket was part of the filter's bracket. which is a different size. I wish I still had Z9 filters but apparently these are better filters.... They better be at $28bucks!phippsy wrote:$28 a filter I thought they are a z9, about $5 at supercheap or on special last time I bought one.
My standard oil pressure gauge takes a good few seconds to go up.
Recently I fitted an Autometer oil pressure gauge when I fitted the turbo and that gos up almost instant maybe 1-1.5 secs max!
So as said I would chuck a decent gauge on there even if just to check, as the standard gear isnt exactly accurate
