I have posted similar a long time ago.

My glow plugs don't work off the factory set-up, I have payed an auto elec twice to repair it and am fairly frustrated.

The glow plugs work fine when I hard wire them to the battery on cold days btw.

Where is the relay? Im guessing it is on the passenger side as that is where I see the brand new wires?

How do I test the relay and if all else fails what precautions should I take if I hard wire them to a press button on the dash?

Stick your finger on the relay body and get someone to turn the key. If the relay is good you should feel it go clunk. If you really want to hard wire them, buy a time delay relay or a slow blow fuse or resettable circuit breaker. Use this to create a timer circuit so when you press the switch you don't leave them on.
Although if you've paid the auto electrician twice and you're not satisfied, take it back. You are the customer and its your car. You need to be happy. You paid him to fix it and he took your money. If its not fixed he's got a problem.

Unfortunately my hilux has been unregoed for almost 3 years and atleast one of the two jobs was done while it was regoed.

Almost regoed and glow plugs don't matter for that but they do to me.

The relay idea is a good one, its the second relay been on there.

Relay are usually cheap pieces of crap. Depending where its fitted and how, it could be getting filled with crap everytime you hit a puddle. That's all it takes. My air horn relay is like this. I'm on my third. My fault though as I fitted it.
To trace the wiring, have a look at the battery positive terminal. There will be a couple of larger wires with their own fusible links. One will be main power to your fusebox and the other will probably be the glow plugs. This is somewhere to start. Lightly tug the fusible link to make sure it hasn't blown. The timing circuit will probably be under the dash. But when you confirm which relay you want, you can get the wiring colours for the timing circuit and then you can find them under the dash.
