Fitting an ARB Locker at home Q

Post by sudso »

Is it a straight forward unbolt and bolt in the locker in to a diff at home with the right tools or does the diff need to be reset etc. etc?

cheers, sudso

it easy to bolt in the new crown wheel and put the assembly it in place but you will have to set the backlash with an indicator and make sure you have the right preload on the bearings.

it is wise to measure the backlash of the standard center before pulling it apart, this will help with resetting the locker.

Unless you have some idea of what you are doing it may be worth doing most of the work then having a diff center company set the backlash.

Depends on how mechanically minded you are, what tools etc you have, if youve pulled a rear or front end to bits before.

You need to be able to set up the seal housing and tube correctly to prevent leaks later on.
You probably wont get a warranty on parts or removal later if something goes wrong...

If you stuff up the bearing and crown wheel preloads it will cost you later.

Air locker comes with very good instructions.

You need a good torque wrench (normal scale),

A dialindicator with stand, for setting backlash

a low scale torque wrench or an accurate spring scale(fishing type)

A bearing puller (if you are going to reuse your carrier bearings)

A Decent vice.

and a big socket to fit your pinion nut.

OH and you need a 7/16 drill and a 1/4 NPT tap for the bulkhead fitting.
