Anyone give me the average rebuild cost for a '96 SJ80 1.3 engine.
Seems I have one with crook pistons..sounds like a diesel driving off after a cold start.
I guess once the engine is out I may as well do a proper job and renew everything. Damn, there goes my veterans pension for several months. :cry: .
Any ideas..input..would be a great start. The bible has good ideas, but not the $$$ costs.
I'm not far from Adelaide if there is a good contact..

suziworld in Melbourne does a changeover long motor for $1000........

I know it's not Adelaide but gives you an idea of cost..........

Im in the middle of a rebuild on my 4age corolla motor. Assuming you have the required tools (Torque wrench, good sockets, ring compressor etc.) and all the sundries (solvent, gasket sealer etc.) it shouldnt cost you more than a couple hundred dollars for a rebuild kit and a few nights of skinned knuckles and foul language.

Im up to about $270 all up.

Terrific..late nights aren't a problem..my missus snores
Skun knuckles..have them already trying to open her purse
Foul language..struth, my kids would make a wharfie embarrassed
Have all the required tools..beg, borrow and steal &
nick a few charity tins from kids coming to the door for the money..
Yep...Reckon I'm about covered..
Err..how do I open the bonnet..I think the engine is in there !!

Thanks for the good input and ideas...I'll email Melbourne and check out the availability of a rebuild kit...

Once you add up a set of pistons, rings, bearing reco'd head etc. your looking at around a grand
Why don't you look at getting a 1600 16V MPEFI half cut for just over $1500
More work but a better option IMHO, that is what I am doing
Hopefully the half cut Vitara will arrive this week, there is two in the container
I will be starting a thread for this upgrade in the comming days to help other doing the same
You should be able to get away with it for about $2000

I would shop around.

I'm picking up a 1.3 complete minus the carbie, has low KM's for $200.

to get your engine rebuilt depends on the condition of your bores head deck crank cam etc etc , i built mine last year and parts and machine work cost me $1000 , but that was all bearings seals pistons rebore linished crank ground mid range cam decked block full head service , but that just parts and machining it doesnt include labour as i built it myself .
if its worth doing do it intensly , better still do it with MADPASSION

1000 for a exchange motor what does it include anyone got one of these exchange motors have they performed well for and reco motor in canberra it is 2100
