no
use petrol kero diesel carby cleaner etc but id never use water
to much risk of a droplet getting stuck somewhere and causing surface rust or clogging the needle n seat etc

thinners can also be a bit of a no no for drying out the seals altho it does work well :P

i have hosed out carbies before only when fully striped apart was good to dislodge stubborn crap in the idle jet you could see the stuffed spray pattern then upped the pressure blew it out then good spray pattern

i just hosed out all passages under pressurethen hit it with compressed air sit in sun to dry out and reassemble

well it worked for me

Water won't hurt it, long as you dry it all out.

i use carby cleaner to clean and a rag to wipe it also an air blower that way you won't damage or swell any of the seals or leave any water in the carby as spoke about above . when you pull it apart pull all the jets out and blow through them with a air blower as well as the holes and tubes in it then you know that they are all clear .
