Transfer case probs
Ever since fitting my crawler gears sometimes when going down steep stuff in low range and using engine braking to keep it slow the transfer case JUMPS INTO NEUTRAL!!!
Not a fun feeling!!!
So what the hell is wrong with it?
If I (or a passenger) hold the transfer lever it stops it from jumping out.
Whats my solution to fix it? Ockie strap on the lever or should I take it back to the mechanic that fitted the gears and have some words.
Paul.

Search on pirate. You can put a heavy duty spring to stop it happening. Don't know the exact details but it has been covered numerouse times over there.
Chris.
I'm not sure if this will be the same, but in the suzuki sierra application, using super low x-fer gears puts a lot of strain on the x-fer case mounts. The result of this can be that the mount deforms under load, this lifts the x-fer case up closer to the floor of the car and allows the gear stick to hit the floor of the car, or at least squash up the gear stick boot enough to pop it out of gear...
Perhaps that is worth looking into?
Otherwise, i believe the spring cbr was refering to is called a 'dentent spring'.
Cheers

Yep I had the same problem after a 2" body lift, even extending the t/case lever 2" and heating/bending it in all sorts of positions it would still pop out of low range. Had to cut a piece out of the console to stop it happening.
Detent springs are not that strong from the factory, try running it in low range with the console and boot removed first to see if it still does it.

I just luv my "clacker Jabber"
I think it is more of a case of something putting pressure on the stick (like boot) and now that you have lower gears for some reason it makes it easier to pop out when you lift your foot off the gas and it all of a sudden has no pressure from inside to hold it in.
If you have a body lift try removing the rubber boot and see if it still pops out.

trans case problem
I had a similar problem with this in my rocky, except it would jump out whether you had power on or off.It ended up being the syncros in the transfer case were worn.Had them done and problem gone. Also had a 2" body lift in it to.
4WDs arent shopping trolleys
Well I have a 40mm body lift and never used to have any problems.
When I put in the crawler gears I also lifted the drivetrain 40mm with engine mount spacers and a custom crossmember. So it should be back to sitting where it did stock standard.
But I will look into it.
I havent seached pirate yet but I will look into that too.
I would think re. the detent springs and balls that if they were OK before the new gears that they should be OK after?
I really hope its not the syncros as I dont want to have to rip the case apart again if I can help it.
Thanks for all the ideas people.
