how tuff are rangie diffs???

hey guys

got a set of rangie diffs out of an old two door, was thinking of using them in a rock crawler buggy. the specs would be

1.6 efi suzi motor (vitara)
auto (vitara)
twin transfers (vitara and seirra)
36" Irocs

what i wanted to know was will the rangie diffs take the abuse???? it is not alot of engine power but the gearing will be low and i will push it hard.

any opions?????

axles are the weakest link, then the crownwheel and pinion.
would definately need to run some maxi drive or jacmac axles. cw&p should hold up to that little motor

Better to go with Toyota Axles and aftermarket shafts, IMO. Should simple to get a cheap set in Aus.

I'd question whether the 1.6 has anywhere near enough torque to break even rover axles.... and if its in a buggy, theres a lot less weight holding the tyres down.

I didn't break my rear axles with my 3.5 and 34s in my rangie, and I gave it a fair bit of stick on a couple of occasions on rock. Now have a maxi in the rear, but still stock in the front, and the 4.6 hasn't chewed them up yet....

If you have them lying around, and they're costing nothing, chuck them in - if you do manage to break axles, put some maxi ones in!

LMAO, they dont like to wheel spin, and ive broken a rear one with an old rangie, with 7.50x16's. It was the first trip out.

If you put an ARB or something, or weld it, and stop the crownwheel flexing then I think they should be fine with a little motor.

Which engine he has has nothing to do with it ha has duals and auto. I say they will brake.By the time the torque from the engine gets to the axles it would be at least twice that of your 3.5 rangie

THEY WILL BREAK.

No doubt about it. Zook diffs, Range Rover diffs, Nissan diffs, Toyo diffs. They will all break in a buggy, espcially with the reduction so low.

BEST bet for Cheap diffs in a buggy is 60 series, biggest diff centre front and rear, full floating rear axles, there are upgrades like longfields for front and rear axles and CV's.

thanks guys, i was thinking too weak. i will give them to a mate with a RR and get some better diffs.
