The temperature guage in my vitara always sits on cold it only moves a few mm. Is this normal?
It's been like it since i baught it. It's had the head off to get fixed since i've owned it and new thermostat etc and is still the same.

yeah, i've had the same problem with mine. I replaced the thermostat and the temp senser and it has made the gauge move up to about a quarter just above the line, but it still could be warmer i guess

yeah , i run a g16b , motor, and went for an after market, guage setup , as in the end, i hate to cook my pride and joy, cost is about 30 bucks and takes less then a hour.
For a normal vit, check the connections for corrosion.

to check if your guage is faulty or not un plug it off the temp sender and stick a peice of wire in it and earth it, have someone sit in the driver seat and watch the temp guage (if the gauge starts to go up to hot then the gauge is in perfect working order if not you have a faulty guage

... or just disconnect it from the sender unit in the engine bay, and stick the plug straight to earth.
