Hi guys,
basic question probably for the pro's...
88 Hilux ute... petrol gauge works fine until the taks is just above half full.. then falls to empty and stays until it is filled with fuel...
im assuming its the mechanism in the tank... easy to replace? any tips/heads up for a newb?
Cheers

On my Cruiser, you access the float/sender through the rear of the floor. From memory it was a circular opening with about 4 screws or bolts. By undoing these and removing the float you should be able to figure what's wrong / replace. I'm unsure how different yours will be as it's a ute. Just suss out the fuel tank and look for wires?

the best way to check it mate is to remove the plug at the top of the sender unit. fuel pump generally its at the top of the tank, you might struggle because of the tray in the way and find the thin wire that has power going to it and earth that wire to ground and your guage should go all the way to full and then come back down again that will eliminate the wiring and guage in the dash and you will know its a faulty sender unit

Hey Guys,
Sorry to bring up an old post. But the Fuel Gauge in my Toyota Hilux Surf (1990 2.4TD) doesnt work. Sits just above empty. Im pretty sure its the sender but Ive heard the only way to replace it is drop the whole tank out is this true? Or is there an easier way to get to it?
Cheers
