Tailgates ?

Post by Bad JuJu »

Hi All,

My tailgate is fawked, there is cracks nearly right round and through the top hinge.
I have taken the spare tyre off in the hope that my tailgate wont fall off and am going to attempt to plate and weld this up. I may even try and straighten it up too.

Failing this I need to get a replacement.

Is there any difference in tailgates between a Softtop WT, Softtop NT & Marauti Ute ?

Where do all the good tailgates go from people who chop up their SWB into a trayback?

The wreckers dont seem to have any that are any good they are either rusty or also have cracks round the hinges.

Id say they are the same as I dont think the body changed much between n/t and w/t just wider flairs were added.
Just my opinion though and Ive been wrong before ( just ask the missus )

As long as its a soft top, you will fit a soft top tailgate on. If its a tintop, then a tintop door will fit on. Really, there is no difference in the bodies between the WT, and the NT.

A maruti gate will fit fine. I have a maruti gate - Suziworld in Vic used to buy the back halfs of all the maruti's that were cut up by suzuki australia to build drop side trays - used to pay nothing for them and sell the (WT) flares and gates.

Sadly, though, I got mine in about 1997 and they weren't sold much after that.

Tailgate?

What about going to a sheetmetal works (someone who makes stainless pisstroughs) and getting one bent up out of stainless or mild steel? Shouldn't cost much. Stainless lasts longer and would look unreal!
