18r motor problem

Hi guys i just put a new motor in my 79 hilux and i have a problem and i dont no what it is after the motor has been running 4 a hour the motor just starts shuting down losing power. one peoson said it could be the point gaps closing up when it gets hot is he right and one more thing it only dose it when the motor is hot let it cool down 4 a hour and it fine again :?: Cheers

It's an 18R - thats the problem :D

I would start looking at your ingintion system. Pull out the plugs and see what they look like. Also check your coil and leads when you check the points and a reaqly close look at your dizzy.

I had a similar problem in my celica once, turned out to be the coil, ended up replacing the dizzy, rotor cap, coil and leads and she ran better than ever before. But the best thing I ever did with that motor was ditch for an import engine. :twisted:
