G'day all,
Has anybody had any experience with the new "shackle-less" snatch strap from Staun. They call them the Superstrap. From their website it seems you just weave the strap after threading it through the anchor point on the vehicle. Let me know what you think of them if you've used them. They got a good write-up 4x4 Gear magazine.

yeah you can just loop it through to shorthen the strap as well.
they come in 4? 8 12? 15 metre lengths from memory, so a the 15 metre can be turned into a 8 metre strap etc.
Showed them on the 4x4 show.

4wd monthly's snatch strap test had a similar strap in it..i think it faired ok from memory, but they did find that you needed to make sure you weave enogh of the strap back or it pulled apart..

As I'm new to the 4x4 game, what do you guys think about these straps? Would you prefer to use straps with shackles or the Staun Superstrap without shackles?? What are the advantages/disadvantages of each type?

I prefer not to have shackles anywhere near a recovery

I can just see you in the mud, "Now' wherew do I weave this bit??
Nothing wrong with shackles OR proper recovery points.

"Nothing wrong with shackles OR proper recovery points. "
Not this argument again!!!
Shackles can break pretty easily in a SNATCH recovery. No it wont happen all of the time but it does happen. People have when the shackle fails and gets thrown very fast into their head!!

use the correct size shackles and only snatch from proper tow points and you wont have a problem

just use recovery points with the 'clip', that stops the strap falling off, or your hitch receiver with a rated pin.

Nothing wrong with shackles,i wouldnt like to use the 3.2 tonne wons supplied in most recovery kits though. And i know about working loads and safety factors.
