Hey Guys,
I am looking at 2 92 NH SWB Pajeros. I not sure which would be the smarter option to buy. Some advice from people would be great.
1. 92 SWB NH Pajero, 165,000km. Very Very Neat and Clean. Only problem is a bit of paint peeling off bumbers on the corners. Original with Service History. This one is at a car yard for 10K
2. 92 SWB NH Pajero, 302,000km. Little Dirty on the inside (nothing a Full Detail wouldnt bring up perfect. The Motor has had a rebuild about 5000km ago and has 2.5years wtty. Clutch has been done, new wheel bearings have been done. Paint the same as above. I could get this one from a private seller for $4.5k - 5k.
The second vehicle I could spend a little on Detailing and Shocks etc to make sure everything ok and would cost me at about $6k Max.
Any info or advice from people would be greatly appreciated. This is my first attempt at buying a Mitsu. I have been Toyota man through and through and think its time for a change.
Regards,
Lonnie

Which one to buy?

Good question. I think it all comes down to the quality of the rebuild on the older vehicle. If the engine is "good as new" it sounds like a bargain. But, if you have trouble with the engine will the warranty make up for the hassles?
A well maintained 165k km motor could go another 165k km (may not, either...) A dodgy rebuild could give endless headaches, warranty or not.
I see the cheaper vehicle as more of a gamble, but you'll come out well in front if it pays off.
I'd buy the cheaper one, and have the difference sitting aside for a while.

Give the gearbox a good close look at. Try it when its dead cold. But for the difference in price, I'd go with number two. I don't think the car yard will really give to much warranty on a car that old. And 10k is to much.

re
I just purchased a swb myself (in december anyway).
I bought a 1992 NH SWB Gls
- 190000kms
- Body perfect condition
- Mechanically good (second gear notchy)
- Full electrics
- Some dealer warranty crap
- Price $8000 driveaway
I found about 5 others that I was interested in around 6.5-10K but this had to be the pick.
Hope this helps.
