vitara bumpstop extension FITTED (PICS)

Post by atari4x4 »

has anyone done bumpstop extensions on a vitara?

i reckon i'm getting coil bind on compression on the rear now & on full extension the coils are fairly loose.

the rears look like they unscrew from the upper spring mount?

i'm thinking of getting a small spacer machined up?

not sure how they will hold up to the punishment, for only $20 i couldn't give a toss really, but looking at them last night they are close to topping out on extension so maybe a retaining strap might be in order and bump stop extentions.

yeah polarbear has already sent us some happy snaps of his new front bumpstops.

My rears are about a cm too short at full droop but it's more likely your shocks going to be too short rather than the coils bind. I added a spacer cut from solid bar,the threads the same as the body mounts (I think)10mm fine (maybe),the treads on the stock bump are only short so you need the bumpstop rubber to screw in the space and then the spacer have a thread to fit the metal bumpstop.

For the rear I got some rubber door stops prob about an inch high or maybe less, and drilled through the seat on the rear diff where the bumpstop hits, then just lined it all up and bolted it on (you can JUST get to the back through a small gap in the seat to get the nut on)

maybe i should have said atari and me are both running calmini springs, with commo shocks, so theres no way they can fall out, but if you're runnin shorter springs with longer shocks they'll fal out :finger:

neu bumpstops

Post by atari4x4 »

after installing longer rear shocks i noticed that on compression i was getting close to coil bind on the spring also i was at full compression on the shock. i made a lower bumpstop that mates with the original upper rubber bumpstop to limit max compression.
the bumpstop i made was urethane 50mm dia/ 70mm tall and bolts to the lower spring mount. after installing longer rear shocks i noticed that on compression i was getting close to full coil bind on the spring also i was at full compression on the shock. i made a lower bumpstop that mates with the original upper rubber bumpstop to limit max compression.

looks good mate. where did you get the urethane? was it hard to work with?

the urethane is easy to work with, it was left over from a roof top boat loader i think. it was the perfect diameter to sit in the concave of the bottom spring mount, only had to drill 2 holes on the diff to mount them and cut the roller to lenght & set some bolts and lock nuts on a "shouldered" hole in the centre of the urethane........

had em done in an hour or so with measuring and checking.

now i'm going to have to do something about the front bumpstops, planning on OME struts in the future & i know atm mine don't do much in the way of stopping max travel on the struts.

Hi all, Rather then starting another thread I thought I might as well ask on this one.

I have raised King springs and front 15mmcoil spacers, rear 30mm coil spacers. All up 50mm of suspension lift and am putting in lifted OME shocks and struts all round. I was wondering if I will need to do anything about the bump stops. The springs don't look bad but I wouldn't really know.

Thanks, Ben

i guess you'll have to check. on the rear i was getting coils binding, & the front i'll be doing a front bump stop extension when i change over to OME struts.
