the best setup i've seen is on Boof's 40 series buggy, it uses an commodore idler pulley (steel one) with a custom bracket.

i started off with a 25mm od stainless pulley from a boat shop, but the swivel on the bracket broke so using the same pulley wheel i just fab'd up a little bracket and it's been like that since.

I have since ditched my 6mm steel cable (broke a couple of times from the shock of the buggys suspension unloading when going fast over bumps) for superstatic climbing rope (9mm) i used it like that in the last comp and the rope didn't break, i think some others are using dynamica winch rope too.

A little bit of stretch helps.

Pardon my ignorance, What's the purpose of running it down to the diff?

U winch the supension down to stop it unloading and sending u ass over tit, or u can use it to limit the movement of one axle which will force the movement of the other.
