KiwiBacon: Thanks for the offer. That will make the Garrett swap easier if we go that way. fester2au: Is that a typo or did you convert your 80 to EFI? Lets see, before jacking the bonnet I couldn't maintain 140km/h unless the DP chip was turned off and then it struggled to get there. Now I'm ...

Matt: Just finished reading the engine build-up on your website. Mammoth task you set yourself. Spooky how the dollars get away isn't it? I'd actually tripped over this project on mud before the intercooler came to light. I'm a big fan of the 2F, not so much the 3F. dow50r: Do you know if the turbos ...

Adam: Thanks, I'll give them a call. I'm not too keen on replacing the ECU with aftermarket yet. Perhaps when I learn more about them. Surely the software is not very complicated compared to a common-rail engine? Andrew: Very interesing. Did you do it yourself or use a workshop? In other words ...

I found the Diesel-Tec website and had a look around. I tried to ring them but they will be closed until the 12th. Then I rang Denco to talk about their intercoolers and see what they knew about changing turbos (or anything else). Short answer is they have not even thought about it as there is no ...

So CT26 are a whole line of tubos that Toyota use. That explains a lot. I presume they are all bushed type? What about roller bearing turbos then? Surely they spool-up faster so you can get away with a larger one? I don't expect to just bolt on a new turbo and smoke the tyres in every gear. But I ...

Diesel Turbo upgrade options

Why is it that nobody swaps to a bigger turbo on their diesel Toyota? I've searched and researched, and I've talked to a few diesel performance shops but I can't find out why it's not done. With Petrol performance cars, swapping in a bigger or better turbo is an excepted part of a series of upgrades ...

Still havn't put the 2F back together but now I've got another compatability question.

Will my 2F bolt up to the auto trans in an FJ73 that came with a 3F?
The FJ73 is in good nick and the engine runs fine it's just really gutless and thirsty compared to the 2F.

Thanks for the replies. I've saved a bunch of time not trying to make that 3F crank fit. I managed to track down another 2F crankshaft from a mate of a mate so with some new bearings and seals and gaskets I should be good to go early next week.

Thanks again for the info.

2F and 3F similarities

Hey guys, It seems I have run one of the main bearings dry on the 2F in my FJ40 and stuffed the crank. Such a shame as it was a sweet running original motor with less than 200,000 on it. Now I happen to have a 1984 model FJ45 Troopy that I bought for parts. It has a high milage 3F in it that was ...

Incorrect the cab chassi's and troopies have 4.3:1 diff ratios, which is the same as the last model 78,79 series.

Ben
I stand corrected.
And it might make a little bit of difference.
But does not account for the lacklustre performance though.

Maybe my tester was a dud. Maybe the motor was still tight and would loosen up in time. But I dont think it has anywhere near the claimed output. I do think it has oodles of potential though.

I've driven the single cab. Was very disapointed in performance, expected a hell of a lot more grunt out of the V8. Didn't get a chance to line it up against our 4.2TD 79 and 100 series but I'm pretty sure it would have got spanked. Inside is virtually identical to 79. The only thing I noticed was ...

Another 40 series gearbox Q

I have an un-modified 1980 HJ45 with a good H motor but has worn-out the gearbox and transfer case. I also have a couple of wrecks with good gearboxes bolted up to buggered engines that I could use behind the H motor if they will fit. One is a 1983 FJ45 with a 2F and the other is a 1981 HJ47 with a ...

power-up for 1HD

I'm thinking about installing the Taipan exhaust and BP ECU on our 79 Series after seeing it at the 4X4 show.
Anyone have any experiance with this stuff?
10 stage adjustable ECU sounds like a fun option over the Dtronic or Tunit.

We used to have an '81 F100 with factory fitted Perkins. Bit of a slug on the highway but good in the bush. It was easily the best part of the truck.

Also know a bloke who put one in his 40 series 6X6. He loves it.

I have searched for but cannot find any info on crown wheel sizes (not ratios) for Zuks. Why is this, are they all the same? Have you had a look at the Linquip site ( www.linquip.com.au )

drive one running at least 12psi I thought with the 1HZ having indirect injection you should be careful with high boost and a subsequent high fuel load. Turbo tuners and installers have warned me not to do this as it may lead to servere engine damage. A conversion will set you back a minumum of ...
