Another 40 series gearbox Q

Post by brumby runner »

I have an un-modified 1980 HJ45 with a good H motor but has worn-out the gearbox and transfer case.

I also have a couple of wrecks with good gearboxes bolted up to buggered engines that I could use behind the H motor if they will fit.
One is a 1983 FJ45 with a 2F and the other is a 1981 HJ47 with a 2H.

Would either of these "bolt straight up"? And if not what needs to changed to make them fit. All the ID plates list the gearboxes in all vehicles as H41, don't know about the T-case.

Anybody know? Or should I drag the old HJ45 to the dump with all the others and start again?

they'll all bolt up no worries. the Tcase is a later model split case (but that's a good thing), you can either mod the t-case crossmember to fit the hj45, or just leave it off. piece of piss.

only h41's that don't bolt up to the 6cylinders (petrol or diesel) are the ones behind the B series 4 cylinder diesels
