I just did the rounds of insurance companies for my middy cos I'm doing a V8 conversion.

I've thrown out brocures from TCIS and Aus 4wd but I ended up going through Just Car Insurance (underwritten by AAMI)

I'm paying $590 full comp on modded vehicle but the brosure says they'll do 3rd party ...

Yeah, that sort of thing, some use straps and some will fit a towbar mount (or maybe they all do both?)

in my opinion, the best way to go both ways (winching that is)

Just had a thread on this recently as I'm about to do my middy.

Consensus was, use biggest diameter possible for each point.

You'll find front and back are 55mm and middle 3 points are 75mm diameter.

If you want to make your own blocks, I have Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene in ...

I you're dead set on being able to winch both ways, why not get that cradle mount winch that goes into a tow bar sleeve. then you only hook it up when you need it and you can put it front or back. I think they are advertised somewhere in most mags each month. If you can't find it, let me know and I ...

Its amazing how far you can get by sending the right letter with the right letterhead on top. Surely you have a a friend or friend of friend who can throw a few words together to try and inspire a result. If it doesn't work then maybe decide to drop it.

I tried the brand new option. Toyota sells all its seats in parts. Just the metal frames and bolts to mount troopie seats would be $600 plus. Then you need belts and seats / backrests!!! Crazy

I'll start thumbing through old magazines and see what I can find.

Just did one final ring around all ...

A desperate plea for help

In the next few days, my middy is going in for an engine conversion and I'm getting troopy bench seats put in at the same time so I only pay for one eng. cert. Problem is, after calling every wrecker in victoria, I've only found 1 shitty set of seats. I'd really like to put in some clean ones from a ...

Your parents don't want to get rid of a couple of the bench seats from the back of the troopy do they???

Trying to find some to put in the Middy but they're bloody impossible to get

I've just been through the homework. I wanted to do the 1FZ FE into a middy thinking it would drop in easily.

It turned out to be cheapest and easiest to go for a V8 cos the adapters are easy to get. Chev or GMH take your pic.

I'd say its worth going with someone who actually knows about off road so you're still insured there too.

The cup shaped bit is metal and welded to the chassis.

Its sounding like you are saying to leave the rubber bit on top of the chassis (in the metal cup) and insert the lift block between that and the body.

Right?

Yeah... if you look at every other thread on body lifts the first reply is always "SEARCH!!!"

The mounts on the chassis are kinda concave or cup shaped so I'm limited as to how big the blocks can go.

Seems like the consensus is go as big as possible in each spot.

Thanks guys,

Bodylift: Yes, I did search first!!!

About to do a 2inch bodylift on MWB Cruiser. I've read all the previous threads and chosen Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene, acquired cheaply through Tonka's suggestion.

I just wanted to check on diameter. The Middy has 5 points where the body attaches to the chassis. Front and back are ...

Its gotta be a short somewhere. The fact that 2 guages went together either makes it a lot easier or very hard to trace.

I'd start by looking behind the instrument cluster and follow the wires from there. The theory being that you'll find the problem before the wires split off.

Other thing to ...

Snorkel for non standard engine

I'm about to put a Commodore V8 into a 73 series. I'm getting a snorkel done at the same time, problem is, the air intake for the new engine is on the left.

I'm pretty sure all the 70, 73, 75, 78 series snorkels mount on the right. Is this correct?

If so, is there an off the shelf snorkel that ...

How hard is it to plumb in a second LPG tank?

As the fuel guage is done on pressure (I assume) does it stay accurate regardless of how the tanks are configured?

I agree it is worth upping the wiring as the new globes will draw a lot more current.

Is there any difference between the different brands of h4 insert: Hella, Narva, IPF etc?

I know the IPF comes with much brighter globes than the Hella but is it worth paying the extra $$$ for the reflector?
