Colour rendition can be a problem. I still prefer flouro's for this reason. Colour rendition varies. Bluer is to be avoided. Yellower is better. Nice job. Paul Could improve colour rendition (CRI) by mixing the 'tints' of the LEDs. Actually, something I will probably do now that you mention it ...

Thanks for the tips/thoughts. :D Yeah the MCE is a 4 die chip. Tempting, but the thermal issues you mentioned might becomes even more of an issue. Not sure on their prices either. Will look into it. Didn't realise that moisture was a significant issue. Will have to look into some form of housing ...

LED Camp Light

Something a bit different (although it's only really a 'prototype' to see how it would work out). Cree LED (probably about 1 year old technology now. Approx $5 each. http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/6967/29330249.jpg LED Driver from Jaycar - can run up to 6 of the above LEDs. Approx $25. Takes 9 ...

I did a lot of research recently on AT tyres - for me it couldn't be a pain to live with on the road (as that's the car's primary use) but still had to be 'off-road' enough that I could go camping/touring anywhere still. Settled on the Mickey Thompson ATZ 4 Rib. Picking them up next week, so no ...

Looks like competition for the MT ATZ 4-ribs. i.e. a tough 'AT' tyre. yep, and 100 per tyre cheaper. I droppped in to one of the Goodyear Autocare places today to see if they had any samples of the Duratrac and the Mickey Thompson rep was there... asked about the Duratrac and neither had seen one ...

mate you just got absolutly reemed, can you cancel the deal? From the shops I called (4) no one did the wheels any cheaper, and two other places that could do the tyres wanted another $20-$30 per tyre. It's not the cheapest way to get rubber on the car, but I was very limited for choice with 16x6 ...

I've had 3 quotes on 16x8s recently. 2 said $120, 1 said $125. These were all from fairly 'discount' stores with no fancy showrooms etc. Seems like ~$120 is the going rate these days. I think the people talking in $50-$70 range are probably buying 15s, and probably even bought them a few years back.

Surely turbo lag isn't a big deal in a touring 4wd? I'd consider the Air to Air for simplicity. Could it be top mounted with a scoop (ala WRX) to keep out the way of the radiator? Although never thought bonnet scoops on 4WDs seem like a good idea if water crossings are to be expected. I guess they ...

Today my brother got some prices on wheels & tyres for his 80 series. He was quoted $120 ea for steel, but didn't like the look. He's gone for 265/75R16 S/Ts on alloys - about $2800 for five. I'd be looking at $2250 for 5 of the ATZ on black steels, same size tyre. Coudln't justify the extra going ...

We got a 99 NL recently, and I think it handles pretty much like an average large sedan (i.e. pretty decent for a 4WD). I know it isn't much help to you, but Pajeros have always been considered pretty well mannered 4WDs on the road (assuming your comparing it with another, similar era 4WD).

Is this a 2000 Pajero?

I'm very confused... I thought that after about 1997 the Gen 2 Pajeros all had the boxy guards and updated headlights. Like this one below. http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/4320/pajerogls.jpg However, I keep coming across 2000 Pajeros advertised as NLs, and looking like the pre 1997 shape?! I ...

HID upgrade kits can be pretty annoying to other traffic as well. HIDs should have a very sharp 'cut-off' so that the light doesn't dazzle oncoming traffic. This doesn't happen with fitting HID inserts to conventional halogen reflectors. Well, not to the extent that it should. Personally I think a ...
