Rancho's are a poor quality shock and the adjustability is a gimmick, but they will bolt in and the valving is appropriately soft. I have to disagree that the Rancho's are a gimmick. I have them on the Rear of my vitara, i run them on the softest setting on the road which is just right. However ...

Why on earth do you need 31" tyres on a vitara ? Vitaras work best with mild modifications, even though their not as tough as a siera if done properly they can be a very tough little truck. Modifying a car to the point that everything is under stress makes it less capable than when its bog standard ...

They usually say that rav 4's are pretty decent in the sand, however their flimsy design means that if you bottom one out its alot easier to damage the mechanicals

also, as it doesn't have low range, recoveries and the like are a lot harder

Because its been tested, i've tested the sender unit to make sure it working fine. when tested using either current, or a boiling hot water you can see the full deflection on the instrument cluster. The thermostat was tested the old fashioned way, taking it out and diping it in hot water to make ...

The gauge is fine, my question was about the viscous fan.

Can it be reapaired?

and if its broken, would it be a gradual effect or a sudden change?

Vitara Viscous Fan

I've done a bit of searching but i've come back with several answers to this question so i thought i'd post it here. I've had my vitara for 5 years now and its never missed a beat, however its always had a temperature gauge that won't move passed about 1/8 on the gauge. (sits just on what i asume is ...

When i put spring spacers ontop of my lifted coils i used heavy duty wire to make a spring compressor, alot less fuss then pulling the whole assembly apart.

However, i will say that you have to make sure you're very careful how you tie the wire and where you place it. ....safety first peeps

I think u may struggle with that one, my understanding was that OME is ARB (though i may be wrong)

also, as with anything you get what you pay for

theres a reason king springs are that cheap

true, i'm sure they take good care of their cars

i was reffering to the construction of the vehicles not the care taken.

i know for instance that many of the grey imported toyota surf's and 4runners had problems with an intercooler that was not suitable for the hot australian conditions.

Mine's got 310,000 and still going strong. I was told by someone that the engines that come from Japan as imports aren't built to the same standards as the australian versions. Something to do with the fact that people discard their cars far more frequently so their not as worried about longevity ...

yeah when it comes to the air intake i think i'd prefer it done properly.

the snorkle is fairly useless if part of the air hose is held together by tape.

having said that though, sydney was a good tip.

Suzi Four wreckers had one and are posting it up for me

Not sure what the sieras are like, but my vitara had breathers fittedn standard which came out at the top of the engine bay.

Apart from extending a small section of hose when i lifted it, all i had to do was add a set of filters on the end to stop crap getting in.

but in my lwb vitara there are a few switch spaces on the compartment behind the 4wd lever just in front of hte rear pwr window switches.

Thats where i've put mine, nice and convenient next to the offroad stuff

hey guys, nearly time to change the oil on my G16b vitara again. I've been using Castrol Magnatec for the last few years, but i've been told that in older engines sometimes using a thicker oil can be better as it burns and leaks less. i know theres been heaps of talk bout it, but anyone got any ...

I was lucky that my car was in fairly good nick when i bought it, but there were dodgy repairs done on it over the years, that would have been cheaper for me to to fix if people had performed proper maintainence on it, rather than doing hte minimum to keep it going
