New LJ80 owner
I have an original LJ80. I want a 4cyl engine upgrade. I am after 60-80kw and preferably EFI. What is a straight forward swap? I am happy to do minor transmission housing and tailshaft mods to suit a new motor & gearbox. Has anyone put p/s and disc brake front? What are my options? Can most of this ...

80 series 16" wheels on HJ60
I have a turbo HJ60 '86 model G series with chrome 16" split rims. I want to go tubeless. Tyre salsemen tell me 16" have greater range of tyre sizes. What tyre size, rim size and width should I go for? Do 80 series 16" tubless rims fit my HJ60? I want equivalent to 32" tyres but not too wide so they ...

I think I'm putting off the inevidable and you guys have just confirmed it. It's time for a full g/box and transfer rebuild. I will have another closer look and try to see where the leak is, especially around the breather tube as suggested, but the correct thing to do is pull the whole lot apart ...

HJ60 gearbox oil leak
My gearbox has just developed a serious oil leak. It used to only weap out of the transfer case at the end of the idler shaft. Before going on a 3 week outback trip, I installed the bypass hose kit between the g/box and transfer filler plugs. When I came back from the trip, pouring out from the top ...

I have a HJ60 Diesel landcruiser and love it. Consider one of these since you could pick one up and have some spare change. Maintenance is simple. If it's a 5 speed manual, make sure the gearbox is OK, other than that, they are great and very capable for first time 4WDers. If you wish to go smaller ...

Depends what you mean by acceptable. If I owned one from new and got 600,000kms out of it, it would be acceptable! Don't be scared to purchase one with 300+ kms since the 2H engine is under stressed (and under powered). As they say, they go for a long long time, thats because it takes a long long ...

The locating/guide brk that prevents the t/case lever from moving forward whilst in 4L is only located with two bolts. This allows the brk to pivot in turn allowing the t/case lever to move forward enough to select 2L. Quick fix is to use a lump of wood or a bar and knock the brk back into position ...

HJ60 pops out of 4x4 down steep hill
Any one know why my HJ60 pops out of 4x4 down steep hills in low range? It's a bit hair raising when it happens! All engine & gear box mounts are good. The body is known to move and push on the 4x4 lever under extreme loads but I have removed the dust boot and checked clearence around the lever ...

HJ60 alternator capacity
I have an '83 HJ60. What is the max. alternator amps? I have heared of 35 and 50 amp alternators. (50 amp in later model HJ60s). Are they a direct swap? I wired up some spotties and checked the voltage at the battery at 3000rpm and found it was only about 12.8V (new battery by the way). I have a ...

About 2.4 tonnes is what my HJ60 weighs. Following on from your other question about a first 4WD: If you are after good power to weight ratio for sand, good economy, the room of a station wagon and a cheap first car, you won't find one. They are all a compromise. (unless you go V8 on gas with access ...

OK. To answer my own question, I had a look and the wiring (or at least the plugs) are different from the original loom on my '83 model to the under the dash unit from an '88 model. Next question, has any body got a wiring diagram for these two models? My haynes manual does not show enough detail ...
