I have 2 IFS lux's and am happy with them, like everyone here has already said, its a horse's for courses compromise thing.
I have taken them everywhere I have needed to go.
I agree Driver ability has a lot to do with it.

After much research I have just put a set of BFG AT's 31's 10.5 15 on my duel cab hilux and am very happy with them.
Also put Maxxis muddies 32's 10.5 15 on the X-cab, CHEAP but develop quiet a bit of vibration and noise.

I am running a Dell Axim 51 with Ozi , compact flash gps + have to run a 4gb sd card for maps, it gets 'chuggy' from time to time and freezes up for a short time,not too much of a drama but now have to load co-pilot live compact edition on or some other form of navi software, tomtom etc, possibly ...

Gearbox question

Greetings
Apprentice asked me a question today ,re-gearbox in a 96 lux 2.8D, says it only has a 4 speed in it and 4th is real tall, my reply is that it should have a 5spd, they were 5spd from about 82-83 ish on??,Can Anyone offer some advice/info?? or could an older g/box be fitted..

Buy a new one , then the water pistol idea is simple== remove top- wash out fill with H2O- leave a little head space-charge up with compressor & bingo Water pistol, work good too, I got a 9kg one,

probably a bit late now but did you look at sleeving the bar, as in finding a bit if thin walled pipe that fit snug and weld it to either the bar of the carrier, putting a nylon disc, like a washer between the 2 may also also help..

may pay to look into different grades of steel, not sure off the top of my head but something with say more chromium or a lower carbon steel, heading down the coefficient of friction / metallurgy line here with regards to better head transfer/ dispersion if you get my drift!?!?!?!

Tafe use to run a course called agricultural welding farm or somefink like that, they use to take them in with the tradies on stick 1 and welding and thermal cutting courses, when I was a boy... IMO learn the basics on stick go mig, & then tig much easier and neater..

When I worked for BP a few years ago, they supplied alpine diesel here in Bathurst, but I think the concentration of the 'anti-freeze' can vary, not sure if they still do.
Diesel will freeze here , we had trucks(fire) freezing up here a few years ago in the frost, also had the pumps on the back ...

Well I had the pipe done, the bloke who installed it for me use an adaptor plate ordered from melbourne that bolted onto the bum end of the turbo, he then made a new 3in pipe to suit the plate.
All I can say is, if you are considering doing this, GO FOR IT!.
The power is much better.
