I've had lostmarbles from over on ih8mud looking into it (link: http://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/318198-bj40-no-headlights.html ) and I think I've just confused him as well as myself. Relays are all good. Before I go untaping the wiring from the lights to the switch and back to the battery, is it possible that the light switch itself is buggered? If so, are they easy to repair?

Cheers

Thanks for the advice guys. I had a thought it might be a relay so I'll check that first before breaking out the multimeter and having a go at chimpboy's idea.

Cheers.

They were working fine the day before yesterday. Went out last night and when the time came to go home after dark, I noticed I had no headlights or spots.

The light switch is stock and the instrument cluster and parking lights come on when it's switched on full or half.

Electrical problem - no lights

Guys, I'm posting this here because it looks like my shorty forty's had her electrics hacked and the manual is no help. Here's the problem: Lights don't work - low beam, high beam, spotties. Dash lights work (apart from hi-beam indicator). Fuses are all good. Anyone able to offer some guidance on ...

I've got one which came with the 40. I was going to ditch it and bung in a UHF, but I think I'll keep it in there and just use the 5 watt handheld UHF for flash for cash updates and short range comms. As stated above, the range of 27MHz in complex terrain is way better than UHF - the old AMs are ...

What's the legalities of soft half doors?

Been perusing ih8mud.com for the um tech advice, not the 40-porn :D and I've noticed a lot of these soft half-doors on the Septic machines. http://www.quebec4x4.com/histoire2005/essex05/DSC01539.jpg What's the go, are these legal here in Aus? I'd normally answer my own question and say no, but ...

FJ55 5-speed box to replace the BJ40 4-speed?

My old 13B engined BJ40's got a 4-speed box which is great unless you need to take her on the highway. I was at the local wreckers today pulling the steering wheel off an old FJ55 and I noticed that it's got a 5-speed box. Anyone know if it's possible to replace the BJ40 4-speed with a 5 speed out ...

I spent a bit of time on the 40 today after running it through its paces out bush on the weekend. I'm impressed - no lift and saggy rear springs and she did everything I asked of her. I'm renaming her "The Gecko". She's all fitted out for camping with an army surplus space case and a couple of 20mm ...

New BJ40 owner - got some Qs for the Shorty brains trust

Hi everyone, Tonight I picked up my shorty. She's a 1979 BJ40 soft top. I haven't ID'd all the mods as yet, but she has some nice-to-haves like a tow bar, bull bar, roll bar, engineered pajero seats and a 3B donk. She's got the original jack and tool kit as well as a centre console - with cup ...

Thanks for the replies everyone. I had planned for range being an issue, but I'm getting by now on a standard zook tank (35 lt) and two jerrycans to get me between fuel stops, so a TJ should be good to go with a similar setup. With the Wet fast approaching, I'm looking at picking up a new (or second hand) soft top for the zook.

My zook fu is weak so I would appreciate any hints on cheap places to buy a standard soft top or whether anyone has any they would part with.

Yep, the G13B engine is the one the coily came with. The carby setup is very similar to the one on the G13A donk, but with different pollution gear and wiring. Are you thinking of an east-west G13A out of a hatchback?

Been working on the coily's vac problem this arvo - I haven't got it sorted yet, but I will. Not because I know what I'm doing, but because I am persistant.
