thanks for your reply. the gearbox goes into neutral, it just doesnt help change gears on the transfer at all. Is there any better way to be able to do it other than in drive with no load? ie changing from 4H to 4L and back while on the beach/dunes id have problems finding a spot that wouldnt load ...

Auto + Transfer Case problems

My overlander has a turbo350 with a dana m20 transfer case (single shift - sequential), So to get from 2H to 4L, I have to go through 2L, N, and 4L, the problem is to change gears in the transfer I have to get the Turbo350 inbetween gears ie between park/reverse, it wont go in just in neutral which ...

for a straight petrol 253 id go rochester or nothing bigger than a 350 holley,

for straight gas, id be talking to a place like gas research.

But I agree with what has been said already with EFI being the way to go.

I wouldnt use a gen111, they cost a bit much and havent been here long enough. The holden 304 is good, reliable, plenty of performance upgrades available locally, but that extra .7L would come in handy. Stroking a 304 is an option... But why not a 350 efi chev that isnt a gen111? or even a bigger ...

Hi,

I have a holden HZ overlander (not original) pretty basic at the moment, DANA M20, turbo 350, 253, 31's, salisbury 10bolt diffs with landcruiser ends on the front.

Looking to go DANA M20, turbo 400/700, a bigger efi engine, 37's, and complete landcruiser diffs.

2) Getting Engineers for upgrading to 35's "now almost impossible". His words, and he stopped there, wasnt interested in discussing it.. Cant see why this would be, upgrading to larger tyres wouldnt be a problem if everything else was upgraded aswell... Is there another engineer you could talk to ...

Wheel Size vs cost

This is probably going to be a fairly hard question to answer but what size wheel can you go to before the price for 4x4 tyres starts to grow very quickly?

eg I presume 4x4 tyres for a 21" wheel would be astronomical compared to the same 4x4 tyres for a 15" wheel.

Thanks

Just work out what you want, ask around to see if its been done before, if it has then your set, if not ring around some of the adapter places to see what they can do for ya. I wouldnt worry too much abt diffs, as there are lots of places who can cut up a diff and tailshaft to suit any car. Cory

thanks daddylonglegs, my front diff actually sits to one side, and I have a nine inch laying round here, would their be any problem with using a landcruiser front diff and 9inch rear? provided they had the same ratio?

Thanks

My car is a yellow wagon with a 253, trimatic and 10bolts front and rear.- The front is custom, 10 bolt diff with Landcruiser outer bits, and cut down holden leaf's, so it might have been made by the same guy. This car does have very tall gears, the D60's where for sale in a kit from Arthur Hayward ...

Diff Strength

Hey,

My overlander replica is fitted with Holden diffs, and from what ive seen the originals where fitted with DANA 60 and 44 diffs,

So Im wondering how a holden 10bolt diff compares to the DANA 60 and 44 diffs, and what sort of torque would I need to break the 10 bolt diff?

Thanks

The first injected holden v8s where in VN's (unless your extremely lucky and happen to find one of the rare VL injected v8's but even then it will cost alot) I havent looked for an injected v8 for a while but if you can get hold of a cheap carby version that fits your requirments you can get all the ...

How bout the VK Black engine... fuel injected 202 i think.. all it needs is a big sports exhaust and could sound like a V8. You should be able to get the head modified for fuel injection if u were keen for the 253, runing an aftermarket coputer and sensors... I wouldnt go an injected 202, all the ...
