Welding up the back diff is fine, plenty of the hot rod brigade do it as like us they are after the extra traction it affords. Couldn't tell you if it is legal but I doubt it. More traction means easier to brake something as will put the drive train under more load etc etc but woule be good off road ...

If your Feroza's done over 100000km then it will use oil, any car will I don't believe any car will, my datsuns I have had have done more that 100,000K's and not used a drop still or if they did they were hardly noticeable every 10,000ks but then they were renowned for it.
