Hi Tom,
You are correct, only the +ve wire is needed to the HEI, The tach terminal is also useful if you are running LPG as you need the signal to keep the LPG flowing.
If you have money to burn, Jason from redrhinoprodcuts has leeched all this info (see posts further up in this thread) and is now ...

I did the HEi conversion year ago, replaced an aftermarket luminition style kit, and have never looked back. The HEI offers such good spark its unbelieveable. I have NEVER had a problem starting, with water etc since i fitted it and economy is great (for a rover) about 15-20% better. There is a tech ...

Jason,
I did the tech bit on the HEI conversion and if i was where you are located i would search the juckyards for a 70's -80's Buick 350 HEI which should be a bolt in. The clearance issues (minor manifold grinding) i had were due to the taller deck height of the P76 block, rover should be fine ...

For cooling my P76 i had a custom 4 core made in Melb, the std rad would not keep it cool at all, i also cut the holes to let air out and modifed the fan shroud (to suit body lift) so the engine fan worked at its best. I also have a Davies craig 13" electric that i switch on when req'd (not very ...

They will fit and work for a while without the ring, BUT very loose with no support around the starter nose, as without it they are only held/supported by the bolts. A decent kickback during starting and they will snap the alloy mounts around the bolts etc of the starter. BTW i have a broken rover ...

Quick update.
The difference with the HEI is huge, (but i did also replaced the old leads with some nice new 8mm ones and new plugs). The old girl now goes 15% further on a tank of LPG which shows the value of good spark. No starting issues and can wash the distributer cap with a hose when cleaning ...

Hi Das,
From memory the P76 put out 200bhp when new, not sure about torque figure, but feels like a lot more torque than a 3.5 rover.
The leyland is wider than the 3.5, but a lot of the external stuff interchanges, so can disguise the engine swap. The front cover should be swapped over so you run ...

Not sure what model Olds V8 it came from, I just scrounged around a pile of oddball HEI's until i found a V8 the right length. The numbers on the side of the Old's dizzy were 1103347 7L4 which may help. The shaft from this is perfect length for the Buick V6 and the drive gear swaps over perfectly ...

Fitting GM HEI to P76 or Rover V8
OK, i have just finished a little project yesterday thay may or may not be of interest to many, but for those that are interested this is what i needed to fit an HEI to the P76 (or rover) V8.
The main reason for doing this was to overcome inconsistant spark when on LPG or wet conditions. I had a ...

I run 255x85x16's on my rangie with LT95 and they are fine if its an early one with the low high range gearset. If it a 1:1 high range it may struggle with the 3.5

10 spines are OK for stock tyres, fine with larger tyres as long as you are aware there is a weak link in the drive train and drive accordingly. I ran 31" tryes for a few years and put 255x85's (33.5") on 18 months ago and broke my first axle after 12 months and about 15,000 km's. The axle was the ...

I bought a 98 Disco new, great vehicle but was too much money for the 4wding i was doing so i bought an old rangie for off road instead. They drive well, and are not too thirsty. I averaged about 16l/100km for the 50k i did with mine. Off road they are great, even in stock form. I just fitted BFG ...
