would it be cheaper and more viable to do a v8 conversion?
Then youd have to get it engineered, adaptor kits etc.
I think some came from the factory with a 1HZ, that way you wouldn't need a certificate and it would be a good simple engine for the middy IMO.

'If' I wanted to do one, it would be to a 105 series for the solid front axle, instead of IFS.
Any idea what the approximate cost would be, for the Duramax/Allison, and then to fit it?

Tie it off... that would never work, if the fan cut in it would be all over, rope or wire flyin everywhere.
That is what my mechanic suggested, I do it, it works. Many others do the same, it works.

Re: 79 Series Cruiser Thermo troubles.
I tie off the (viscous) fan to something in the engine bay to stop it spinning on deep water crossings.
Prevents problems with the radiator, as long as you know about the deep water in advance and can stop to tie it off first.

the fan cluch is supposed to free spin wen it has an opposeing force to it, including deep water as water will distort the fan and like it did to mine... chop up the radiator

No problem Steve.
Putting the frame/chassis number you mentioned above into toyodiy.com brings up his model.
Is he sure that the ECU needs replacing?
Might be worth opening it up and see if it has bad/leaking capacitors that need replacing, or burnt-out capacitors for resistors.
