I've got pretty much the same problem but I'm at the point where the winch is in a few bits and I'm keen to learn more by giving it a service and rebuild.

I got the winch to freespool by trying the tap trick but it seemed to be a bit stiff and was killing the Mrs dragging it out, so I thought I'd ...

I've heard from others as well, that you can put a clutch type system to disconnect the supercharger for day to day driving.
I've asked a few companies for more info on running superchargers, prices, fabrication etc, including how to turn it off for daily driving, so hopefully they'll get back to me ...

From what I've found, turbo is cheaper and easier therefore the preferred option but would be interesting to hear from someone that's done a supercharger mod

What are some pro's and con's of Turbo vs Supercharger.

I've been swaying towards doing a supercharger mod as well but there must be reasons why everyone does the Turbo mod.

Had the same wobble at 60km but went away at 65km, had a cracked power steering hose so thought that was the issue, the wobble went away after the hose was replaced but also had really fcuked castor bushes as well. My thoughts were similar to what chunks is saying that basically parts of the ...

have got a 91 GQ lwb 4.2, no it has no leaks, its just marking its territory, slowly fixing all leaks but the oil out of the alternator threw me for a bit.

a GQ is like a high maintainance missis, spend weeks priming it for a good thrashing then start over, and so the cycle begins, but once your've ...

Onboard Air

I want to have a go at DIY onboard air for a 91 gq safari. I know the theory of using your a/c but not really sure of the process.
Does anyone know of any good info to get started?
Maybe tips and tricks of stuff that you can only learn after doing it.
I've found a few bits and peices online but was ...

So pulled it out again, checked to see if I cooked it, testing for continuity across the rotor and bits as per manual stuff, I'm thinking that when I pulled it out, as there was oil on the wrong side of the seal, when I moved it out of the engine the oil has run down onto the brushes.

That's the concern, am just trying to confirm its the alternator though, it was working before I touched it and now it doesn't,

Oil in the Alternator Issues????

Have a few issues in the alternator and while I'm trying to suss it out I thought I'd share my progress for all those good ideas that flow round.

I had an oil leak which is coming from between the alternator and a pump on the end of it.

Pulled the alternator out and cleaned out the seal stopping ...

I cut about 2cm down from the line and used a flat peice of steel to mark the back edge, made tabs on the front to fold under and where i could on the back, the rest I cut off as even as I could.
Watch out for the wires on the drivers side, I used a hole saw to relocate them, bit of a trick but not ...

So over time.........Buy 33's and chop the guards.......2" lift for xmas........make the next set 35"? Unfortunately the budget dictates tires before lift due to excessive wear.

Those prices are for five tires,

I just don't want to start chopping and turn it into a 6 month rebuild, a little ...

GQ tyre options?

A bit new to 4wd scene and have no idea on where to start on tires, have 15x8 rims -20 offset and currently bald tires, no suspension upgrades yet, no planned body lift, have cut the rear quarters and have no problem taking the corners of the front bumper off.
