Hey Dan, I aint no auto elec but sounds like motor to me... You could try giving the the motor power bypassing the control box with jumper leeds( make sure ya connet it corectly) to see if you have burnt the cables out or is the battery tired....... Dare say you would be able to get plenty of parts ...

Should work good! They should only need the alt, I would assume it would cost a lil more than a reco cos there may be more work involved Ring an auto elec and quiz them they are usually more than happy to explain things to ya.... I bought my reco bosch off the shelf for bout $200 or so can't recall ...
