An update on fuel consumption for those interested. Just did Mt Isa to Melbourne and back again (5200km's total) loaded up fairly heavy.
Sitting on a true 110 km/hr (from GPS) averaged 9.2 litres/100.
Does 8.4 l/100 sitting on a true 100km/hr.
Not too bad.

Re: 2012 Nissan D40 STX V6 diesel
Busi that's not correct. The V9X's all have the same diffs. There are 2 different carriers for the front R180a diff to cater for the various gear ratio's, on all D40's. The actual front diff is the same. Just 2 sizes of centre carrier (and the V6's have a stronger 4 pinion design). ie one size for 3 ...

I'd strongly suggest you get the extended ball joints. I don't think aftermarket UCA 's provide much more extra droop, compared to 35mm longer ball joints.

Does your Navara axle hop a bit on dirt when you give it some. Mine does but I still have the stock shockers and I reckon beefier units would minimise this.
Especially in sand it has a fair bit of axle tramp.

Re: 2012 Nissan D40 STX V6 diesel
I've done the EGR block with a blanking plate about 15,000 klms ago. The CEL light comes on periodically (due to insufficient exhaust flow recorded) but I clear it with an OBD2 reader. The cruise control is affected however, which was discussed on navara asia.

You are clocking up the klms fast. I have just hit 30K. I refuse to get mine serviced at Nissan. I do my own service's as I reckon Nissan are pretty bad when it comes
to warrantee claims. I will keep a close look on mine.

Re: 2012 Nissan D40 STX V6 diesel
Yeah mine has the diagonal braces. The ARB plates just mate up flush with the bottom. The only mods on the transmission plate was to add 4 M8 nutserts for 4 new bolts. This was because the holes in the cross member didn't line up with the ARB holes. I could have probably got away with only 2 bolts ...

Re: 2012 Nissan D40 STX V6 diesel
At the time I bought my plates they didn't have V6 ones available. I had to make some mods to fit mine. Mostly the front bulbar mounting point (added a 50x25mm RHS cross member with nutserts) and extra nutserts for the transmission plate.

I have the same ARB bar as you and ARB under vehicle protection (Bash plates). I have front strut coil spacers but have fitted 35mm longer extended ball joints. Wheel travel is good, but I need to get my alignment fixed.

Just put a Harrop e-locker in the front diff. Just have to finish wiring the switches in. I posted some photos on the Navara forum located here.

I'm with jimbo. I wouldn't trust the scangauge ever. Real figures only published, means true distance covered and actual fuel put in the tank. Both my brother's have 79 v8's and both state same figures as bru, or very close too.

Gin poles or A-frame cranes.
It must be the redneck in me but I like the idea of building one of these, either on the front or back.

I just pulled apart my winch. Spent ages trying to get the gearbox apart until I found out it had a hidden grub screw which was potted and painted over.
I was surprised to see it has a cycloidal gearbox and not a conventional planetary. Heavy duty gears though.

Re: starting an engine after its run on oil - updated with p
I still think it's your intake plumbing. Quick check is flush all old oil from inlet tubing, remove air box and run with just a Pod filter straight on the turbo inlet.
Your inlet tubing is very long, combined with a possibly blocked air filter and you will definitely suck oil past the seals.

Re: starting an engine after its run on oil - updated with p
I don't think anything is wrong with the turbo. It's your crap inlet suction line that is sucking in and blocking at high flow, causing a big vacuum (which sucks oil past the seals). Turbo's aren't designed to run high vacuum on the inlet side.
Re-do the piping and re-run is my recommendation.

They are geared too high with 3.9 diffs in the Auto. They need 4.625 diffs to make them liveable and enjoyable to drive.

Mine had the same issue in my GU TB45. It was the diodes in the alternator. They had partially failed and conducting current in the reverse direction. A multimeter on the battery terminal and selectively isolating stuff found the problem. New alternator and problem solved.

5th Gear failures was never a strength problem, only wear due to a loose spline. Never ever seen a broken 5th gear. The problem was 100% fixed after late 2002.
The weakest link is actually the small input shaft but you can get a gear cutter to make a heavy duty, large diameter input gear and spline ...

They are not budget, but I reckon Unimog 1700L diffs would be the ulitimate. Much larger than 404's. U1700L are 10,600 kg GVM and run 52inch tyres std. I'd like to see atube buggy running these.
