I think mine (1989 2.8 turbo diesel Hilux) injector pump is in desperate need of a service because a) when it is cold i've noticed it starts and idles at 700 and then when I drive it, it idles on around 800-900. How were the engine temps when you changed your fuel pump adjustment. A diesel will run hotter the richer the mixture (opposite of a petrol engine, which runs hotter when its lean)?? The adjustment screw is the one above where the injector pipes go in. Has a 12mm lock nut and a slot in the end DO NOT TURN MORE THAN ONE FLAT IN AT A TIME. had that done also!

dont know the figures, but the last mechanic i took it to was a diesel specialist. I also had it compression tested when i bought it and he said it had really good compression also

Somone mentioned timing, so maybe that could come into play

get right under the thing and check everywhere for rust or signs of any specific cleaning to hide oil leaks.

the rust will hide up in the rails and it will be pretty obvious is she's been treated to some salt water and that kind of thing.

big oil leaks could be a thing to be weary of as well

well in an attempt to have things thrown at me, i reckon just give it a few months and you'll be used to it i saw a new bottom of the range one at the kalgoorlie store and i cant say it looked like something i'd own. But a fully specced up sr5 or something could probably look pretty sweet (i hope)

Incorrect fuel guage in lux

Just picked up a 92 d/cab 2.8d lux, and the fuel guage is out.

When it shows empty, i fill it and only 20L's of fuel goes in.....

Im presuming its just the sender in the fuel tank, anyone else had this problem, is it a hard item to replace?

i had a mazda 626 that was doing the same thing, the problem was one of the new champion spark plug's i'd put in it was faulty out of the box.

if you put champion plugs in it, swap them out with a real brand
