hmm k, i bought a 92 LN106 D/Cab about 3 months ago for $11,500, has 200k on the clock. 97 model will be totally different for price

Problems with mine:

- I had a bung injector in mine causing it to run rough and blow a shit load of white smoke on startup. That cost me $400 or so to fix ...

I think mine (1989 2.8 turbo diesel Hilux) injector pump is in desperate need of a service because

a) when it is cold i've noticed it starts and idles at 700 and then when I drive it, it idles on around 800-900. It doesn't do it when its not a cold morning when its started.. Really weird.

b)hasn ...

i got mine back from QDAD yesterday, turned out that was what was wrong with me lux.

QDAD was the 3rd mechanic id taken the car too in an attempt to clear up a few problems and they'd worked out what the others couldnt in a matter of an hour, and then after they did the injectors for me that day ...

what issues r u having, ie why u wanna service it?

How were the engine temps when you changed your fuel pump adjustment. A diesel will run hotter the richer the mixture (opposite of a petrol engine, which runs hotter when its lean)??

temps have been fine before and after the adjustments have been made. i havent noticed any difference ...

had that done also!

dont know the figures, but the last mechanic i took it to was a diesel specialist. I also had it compression tested when i bought it and he said it had really good compression also

Somone mentioned timing, so maybe that could come into play

yeah ive double checked that and its all good

and after already trying 2 different mechanics, the 2nd of who was ok but still not really good enough im feeling a toyota dealer is the go

Got NGK glowies so they should all be good, but yeah she still a bit rough

get right under the thing and check everywhere for rust or signs of any specific cleaning to hide oil leaks.

the rust will hide up in the rails and it will be pretty obvious is she's been treated to some salt water and that kind of thing.

big oil leaks could be a thing to be weary of as well

Ive had my 92 2.8d d/cab lux for about 2 months now and im still having a few issues. (200k on the clock)

Issue 1: Blowing too much black smoke
Issue 2: White smoke and rough idle (only on cold start)

So far I've had a mechanic turn down the injector pump to stop the black smoke, which fixed ...

so drop bear all your doing is running a connection from each battery to your switch and this guage is picking up how many volts are coming to the switch?

just sux that they came after you, that's bs no matter which way you look at it. why arent they out targetting truckies pumped with drugs running a 42hr straight shift or the shit companies making them do it, surely thats more dangerous than a few mods....

that just sounds like your fuel tank sender, the unit sits down inside the tank, maybe its bent and banging on the side.

im gonna hop under mine on the weekend and take a better look

Just picked up a 92 d/cab 2.8d lux, and the fuel guage is out.

When it shows empty, i fill it and only 20L's of fuel goes in.....

Im presuming its just the sender in the fuel tank, anyone else had this problem, is it a hard item to replace?

i had a mazda 626 that was doing the same thing, the problem was one of the new champion spark plug's i'd put in it was faulty out of the box.

if you put champion plugs in it, swap them out with a real brand

shit, if only you could pick one up that cheap over here. 10k is a steal, but cars are cheaper in nz im pretty sure.

ive been chasing a dualcab lux for about a month and the going price for a half decent one up to a 96 model here is at least 17k.
