Re: Maverick paint problem

Problem sorted!
I took your advise Hulsty and actually found a local auto paint shop (brilliant!). Two aersol cans of colour 400g each (white & Grey) $40 & one can of clear coat $11.
Now to finish off the job! Thanks!

Maverick paint problem

Ok, I’ve recently chopped the rear quarters on my Mav however I’m having a hard time finding a touch up paint to match! The car is has that lovely two tone effect (white/ grey) but neither repco, autobarn or super cheap have anything that resembles that grey/ gun metal color! If anyone knows where I ...

Re: GQ rear diff dilemma!!!!!!!

Well it's definitely been an interesting 3 weeks since the last post. The blokes at ARB have been GREAT!!!! To date they've removed the center out of the car at least 6 times, replaced the bearing (3 times) & replaced the gear set (TWICE!!!) yet the noise still persists. After much head scratching ...

Re: GQ rear diff dilemma!!!!!!!

No oil would be kinda funny but no, plenty of oil! :)
Prior to diff rebuild car was quite ie no uni noise etc hence why it was fairly easy to pick.
The guys at ARB have been fantastic! Just hope it's something trivial.

Re: GQ rear diff dilemma!!!!!!!

UPDATE!!!

Cars at ARB. Took one of the mechanics for a test drive and he's positive it's the diff.
They're going to strip it back & see where it has gone wrong. When coasting to a stop you can hear the gears meshing quite clearly.
Should hopefully get some news tomorrow, fingers crossed!

GQ rear diff dilemma!!!!!!!

G'day all, I removed both diff centers out of my Mav with the intentions of getting some brand new 4.6's installed. I have no idea how set-up 'back lash' etc so I took my centers down to the local ARB shop. The guys were more than helpful & said they'd install the gears for me. I received a call a ...

Mav gear box 'ticking'?!?!?!

G'day, Just upgraded from a zook to Mav (90) and been doing a few bits & pieces to the car when I noticed an usual sound coming from the auto. WIth the ignition on but engine off there's quite a loud 'ticking' sound coming from the tranny. It sounds almost like a solenoid opening & closing ...

I'd be removing the transfer case lever & checking the bush, it's most likely stuffed. It's a simple & cheap fix.

Drilling a couple holes? Surely you don't mean tapping into the super thin seat base?!?! I got my seats in with the original sierra rails (a little modification required on the sierra passenger mounting bracket) with the captive nuts I inserted into the GTI seat bases. This was the only way I could ...

Anyhow ...

Yeah........ My little girl is apprehensive to get any where near my car since I put it on its side whilst she was riding shot gun & it was only her first trip out!

Needless to say even the slightest lean puts her on edge.

Bingo! I think you hit the nail on the head regarding too little spring rate. I think I have some leaves lying about & will try that also. I'm happy with the way the car performs off-road. Sure it aint the best but it gets me into enough trouble. The only thing I like to do is get back some 'road ...

Sway bars.... not really interested. Firstly, the car never came with them standard (no jokes). Perhaps an early 82 thing? I rather spend the time fab'ing mounts for new shocks instead. :) In that case I might give shocks ago. From Aliens response it seems they do make a noticeable difference. Do ...

Sierra shock/ spring dilemma

Ok…. I’m currently in two minds as to which direction I should head in so I thought “why not ask the outerslimits community”. There’s no sugar coating it… My zook handles like a ship. In the rear I’m running OME springs & Hilux rears up front (yeap it’s RUF). I’ve got Rancho shocks on the back & some ...

Is there a lip or anything on the flares that we can attatch some rubber to, so to get some extra width? Hey PJ, There is a lip on the flare so extensions are possible. I'll be attempting to do this with my own in the next week or so. Not sure how it's going to look (not too good i think) but need ...

Cant comment on the skyline calipers or subaru m/c . I'm running sierra calipers front & rear with a normal sierra m/c & found it was biased to the rear. I've got the proportioning valve set at it's minimum & it seems to provide a good balance. However, in say that I had to take into consideration ...

Had the same issue in my hard top.... scared the hell out of me but no-where near as much as my passenger!! I ended installing a Wilwood proportioning valve which made a HUGE difference. At least now when I slam on the brakes the fronts lock-up. For $70 (i think....while back now) it a small ...

MINI REAR SUBFRAME BREAK BIAS (RECONDITIONED) http://www.minisport.com.au/category9_4.htm[/quote] not debating that this wouldn't be a novel idea HOWEVER $175 is a little steep! Cant really see how that would make a difference considering both lines from the master cylinder make there way to the back anyway (both connect to that block just in front of the fuel filter) & from there goes off as one line to the rear diff (see pic)..... ahhhhh.... if only it were that simple!

Rear disc lock up issues

Howdy all, Before I begin let me just say 'I searched' but I couldn't find any info that..... I could understand. I've had rear discs on my SWB sierra for some time now but hate the fact the rears are doing most of the work ie rears lock up way before the front. In total I've changed 2 sets of pads ...
