Re: Cant select reverse - possible causes?

My father the helpful guy he is changed the reverse switch in the box for me - they had slightly different plugs, so was easier to swap then rewire it. Anyway, he didn't notice he missed the copper ...

Re: Towing capacity up grade

Hi Guys, I have had these discussions with my engineer here in NSW. Seemed to have no major issues. The patrol and the 80 series cruisers have simmilar differences in this reguard. my 94 patrol has a 2500kg rating. this changed to 2800 i believe for the 97 models. Then the gu which runs much the ...

Re: EL Airbox into GQ 4.2efi

i just bought a k&N for my stock box - factory commodore filter i believe so they had it on the shelf. Supercheap have 20% off this weekend i think - so would be about $80... So unless there are other advantages of the falcon airbox i wouldn't bother personally - $45 saving for the mucking around ...

I did the pan hard etc... suspension was all pretty new, but had gotten progressively worse...

Mine was tyre balance - the difference it made was phenomenal.

Re: gu auto - gq

mate,

i looked into this a couple times - and again very recently when i blew my auto.

It will bolt in - the the electronics are different. Apparently the box with remain in top gear and not shift. I have heard (2nd hand info) of a couple doing this.

I wasnt prepared to take the risk.

Re: auto gearbox and if to fit bigger trans cooler?

they reccomend to fit the extra cooler after the radiator. If you cool it first - then the water will heat it back up. no real prob.... But if you cool it afterwards - it will still reduce the running temp of the water - as the whole auto system will be running cooler, hence placing less heat load ...

Re: auto gearbox and if to fit bigger trans cooler?

the efi gq autos have a tranmission cooler built into the radiator. This makes the radiator much dearer to purchase..... If you have a look under neath you will see the lines coming from your auto to either end of your radiator. I have fitted a second pwr external cooler in series to the radiator ...

And the calipers will bolt straight to my mounts?

Hi,

Yes it did have a brand new radiator with new oil cooler, as well as a large external tranny cooler as well.

I would love to keep the truck - and i would build that auto properly to suit - EXCEPT my car doesnt have the legal capacity to tow my boat.

Thanks guys, Yeah i thought the TD cruiser would be the pick, unfortunately looking around i am only finding examples with 260,000kms for around 32 grand... i have heard of them being picked up better than that though... New tow vehicle required.....

Hi there guys, After hurting the auto in my injected GQ patrol i have been considering my options. I have bought a new boat which when loaded will weigh more then the 2500kg my patrol can legally tow. So we are looking at the upgrade to 3500kg tow capacity. The contenders i have thought suit me ...

hi mate... I would question why? If you are going to run lpg - why go to the expense and hassle to set up efi? If you are planning on running gas 90+% of the time, just set the carby up to run ok in case you need the extra range etc... Unless you have other big plans in the pipeline - turbo etc ...

Hi mate,
I don't own one, but looked at a few.

I drove one of the 5 speed autos first, then a manual...

The auto felt to have 50% more go... felt very well geared, the manual... well i wouldn't buy one.

hi, no idea, it drives fine forwards - but does have a light knocking/tapping noise when going very slow. The auto tranmission specialist jumped in it - tried everywhere - ie betwen park and reverse and between neutral and reverse looking for it to grind or move or something... Could a link bush ...

Are all 4.2L GQ patrol Auto's the same? (mine looks stuffed)

Hi there,

I have just lost reverse in my patrol. It is like another neutral.

Im thinking it will be pretty serious, so am considering getting another box to go in.

My patrol is a 94 injected model.
Did the autos change through the range?

I have found a 89 model one for sale.

my current one is heaps better for head height.

Sit just above the wheel arches - plenty of room to test the workbench... .... the other one was tested, and used, but less comfy than the new one.
