Ok I am officially stumped. it's taken over 10 years...

yeah I searched; is search broken??

anyone using LED H4 headlights in 80 series? I want to know if they work ok with negative high/low switching. Any other useful info? how many Watts/lumens is enough? Best colour temp? (whiter isn't necessarily better?)

Re: 2H overfuelling

disclaimer: at your own risk:

you can use a chisel to loosen and subsequently remove the special nut, and replace it with a regular nut, it's M10x1.5 from memory.

but if it's overfuelling at idle (smoking, revs climbing) it is more than likely the diaphragm as has been stated. new diaphragm will ...

Re: 80 series air con troubles

is it the clutch or just the idler bearing? the bearing is replaceable and they do die, especially if you drive without the air con running.
new compressor + gas + receiver/drier should be in the $400 - $500 ballpark.

Re: 5 liter bundera g/box

the only gearbox that bolts to a g52 bellhousing is... G52.

so your options are wide open - get what ever gearbox you want, if you get a TH you'll need a transfer adapter kit. You can try and find a R151F from a bundera or 105 series diesel if you want to keep it manual - need a bellhousing etc.

Re: Timing Chain Rattle on 12HT or Other Problem?

try a slightly thinner oil, without the additive - it could be that thick oil with thicker goo in it, plus winter time, is making it hard work to pump the oil to the top of the motor on cold starts. a 10W40 is good for winter.

Have you had anything to do with these engines? I am looking for info on how far people have pushed them, I will be buying soon a new turbo that should see me at 22psi under 2000rpm.

you will end up with head and precombustion chamber cracks, and problems with combustion product being forced ...

Re: 80 series driveline whine

never really figured it out. vehicle now has 300,000km and plenty of noises, and noisier tyres. so it's hard to tell if the same noise is there or not. it has a different rear diff in it now, the last one the teeth on the pinion all fatigued and a couple fell off. otherwise still gong strong. holy ...

Re: BROKEN DIFF 4X! How to fix?

a solid pinion spacer should help.

that is part of a package solution but does not make "all the difference" - the factory open hemisphere is also a weak link - it has a big "window" which allows the crownwheel to flex away from the pinion in high stress situations - a locker makes a big ...

Re: BROKEN DIFF 4X! How to fix?

what Dave Said - you could just about get it fixed with an air locker installed for not much more than your $1800. are we talking 100 series (IFS) or 105 series (live axle)?

if you really don't want a locker, you need to learn to drive a lot more sympathetically. Reversing up an incline is instant ...

Re: diference between 60 and 47 diff ratio's

remembering tyre size alone (if box and transfer are the same) won't make a difference to the speedo reading of 60kmh, only to the actual speed (measured with gps for instance).
I have heard of older cruisers being re-geared with 3.7's, so check that.

assuming the same speedo drive gear, same ...

Re: diference between 60 and 47 diff ratio's

from factory they are very likely to both have the same diff ratio (4.11), so there may be a difference in tyre size and/or speedo calibration to account for the speed difference. have a look at the build plate on the firewall in the engine bay; if the first two digits of the axle code are the same ...
